CitizenM used modular construction for its newest NYC hotel

CitizenM, the boutique hotel company founded in Amsterdam that prides itself on offering affordable luxury lodging, is opening its second hotel in New York and in the United States this week, on the Bowery on the Lower East Side. The new hotel will be the brand's first in the U.S. to use its prefabricated construction system, which no doubt helps make its luxury affordable.

According to Rob Wagemans, the brand's creative director who is also the founder of Concrete, an Amsterdam-based design firm, many citizenM hotels feature modular guest rooms that are prefabricated in a factory north of Gdansk, Poland, and then shipped by sea in containers to the hotels' location.
