Vancouver, British Columbia. When major US hotels like The Warwick New York try to reduce their energy consumption, they turn to Vancouver-based Energex Inc. for a solution.
That’s because the company’s cutting-edge SentryWatt occupancy system can monitor guestrooms for occupancy and adjust room temperature and lighting accordingly. It’s an uncomplicated answer to hotels’ soaring energy bills, and especially to the massive amounts of energy wasted when guests vacate their rooms.
The Warwick New York Hotel recently joined other prominent hotels, in selecting Energex to design, supply and install its guestroom energy management and information solution in 425 rooms.
SentryWatt uses infra-red technology to monitor rooms for occupancy. It reduces energy consumption when rooms are empty and thereby delivers astounding energy savings - while remaining invisible to hotel guests.
The sensors also report their findings to wireless palm pilots held by hotel staff, which allows housekeeping to be streamlined and conducted in a more expeditious and convenient manner. Within a mere six months of installation, the cost of these sensors pays for itself in the lower energy bills associated with reduced energy consumption.
By capitalizing on these savings with Energex Systems’ SentryWatt, hotels can allocate their funds towards enhancing guests’ experiences and remaining competitive in the industry, with the knowledge that they are doing their share for the world’s energy crisis.
“Various independent studies confirmed how beneficial the Energex system can be for hotels, which are struggling to control their costs while faced with the challenges of a soft economy and the decline in business and leisure travel,” says Energex CEO Rami Belson. “Our goal is to allocate saved dollars back into their Available Daily Rate (ADR) or their net profit per room, while helping them reduce their environmental impact.”
This project is endorsed and partially funded by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), which will monitor and verify the actual energy savings for up to two years from the completion of the project. NYSERDA ‘s New York Energy $martSM program is designed to support and promote the transition to a more competitive electricity market.
