ATLANTA | Many of Onity’s world headquarters employees donated personal vacation time to help with the construction of a four bedroom, two bathroom home for a Habitat for Humanity project in Gwinnett County, Ga. Onity, one of the world’s leading providers of electronic locking solutions, is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
“Volunteering to help Habitat for Humanity was a great experience and very rewarding for Onity employees,” stated Kelli Muhammad, committee chairwoman of the Onity Employee Activity Board. “It was gratifying to see the support from the Onity family. This experience allowed people from different departments, who normally don’t get the chance to see each other, to come together in a positive environment and help change a family’s future.”
Employee volunteerism is an important aspect of Onity’s commitment to corporate responsibility. Onity is one of many United Technologies (UTC) businesses that support Habitat for Humanity with volunteers and financial contributions. Over the past 15 years UTC companies have donated more than $3 million and thousands of volunteer hours to local Habitat for Humanity chapters.
“Not only did Onity greatly contribute to the stability and well-being of a deserving family, but the occasion provided the employees a first-hand, team building experience,” stated Charles Craig, executive director of Gwinnett County Habitat for Humanity. “Through sponsorships or volunteering, we encourage businesses of all sizes to contribute to their local Habitat for Humanity organizations.”
“Experiences like this make me very proud to be part of the Onity family and I look forward to the next opportunity for us to participate,” stated Muhammad.
