Art lovers will be enchanted by Edmonton's 60 plus galleries and public exhibits. In the 124th Street district, there's the Gallery Walk, 12 blocks of galleries with unique works, ranging from the First Nations arts and crafts of Bearclaw Gallery to the handcrafted wood art and furniture of TU Gallery. Downtown, there's also the artist-run Latitude 53, a gallery noted for art on the utterly experimental side.

There is also been a special buzz over the new location of the Art Gallery of Alberta, designed by Randall Stout, located in culturally savvy city of Edmonton. "We have been able to create an iconic building," says Gilles Hébert, Executive Director, Art Gallery of Alberta. "It's one that celebrates our unique northern landscape and will resonate with the people of Edmonton, the people of Alberta and with those living beyond our borders."

Theatre buffs can enjoy the deliciously dark and much-lauded musical Sweeney Todd at the Citadel Theatre or see the brilliant and bizarre works of the Catalyst Theatre. Edmonton is also famous for being both a starting ground and a hilarious playground for comedians such as SCTV's Joe Flaherty.

A special exhibit this winter in Edmonton is The Royal Alberta Museum's Diamonds, Mined, Refined, and Designed, a dazzling traveling exhibition that unearths the science behind the world's hardest natural substance and Much More Munsch, an entertaining and inspiring interactive exhibition celebrating the creativity of Canada's beloved Robert Munsch.

Edmonton's TELUS World of Science also offers a lot of great gawking opportunities from star gazing in the Margaret Zeidler Star Theatre to fascinating science demonstrations.
