With the proposal for a new Halifax convention centre, slated to open in 2013, gaining momentum, people continue to choose the Nova Scotia city as their convention destination of choice.
"We're excited to have such a great group of events being hosted in Halifax in 2010," says Hélène Moberg, Executive Director of Sales for Destination Halifax. "We see each Halifax, Nova Scotia meeting and convention as an opportunity to showcase all that our region has to offer. At the same time, with more than 50,000 delegates in 2010 spending their dollars in our community, it's great for local businesses as well."
Halifax, Canada was chosen as the host city for the inaugural 2010 Culinary Tourism Thought Leadership World Summit & Consumer Marketplace (September 2010), which will bring together 500 leaders of the culinary tourism industry. Part of Halifax's appeal was the passion and enthusiasm of the locals, says Erik Wolf, president of the International Culinary Tourism Association (ICTA). "The people, the food, the drink; it is clear to see Nova Scotians are proud of their province and its products."
Other major include 3000 delegates here for the Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Club Convention (July 2010), 2000 delegates during the Square and Round Dance Federation Convention (July 2010), 3500 delegates attending the Sci-Fi Fantasy Convention (October 2010) and 900 delegates arriving for the American Association of Port Authorities Annual Convention (September 2010).
