AHLEI and ISPA Offer Online ‘Risk Management for Spas’ Course

The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI), the International SPA Association (ISPA), and the ISPA Foundation have released a new online course, Risk Management for Spas. Developed in collaboration with the Resort Hotel Association, the program is offered through AHLEI's Distance Learning department on its e-learning platform.

Through 10 easy-to-navigate modules, course participants will learn to identify, analyze, and transfer risks pertaining to staff, guests, property, treatments, products and equipment, and information technology in the spa environment. They will also learn about insurance and the U.S. legal process as it applies to liability and risk and how to respond to and document incidents and emergencies. The content includes links to relevant websites, sample forms, and useful articles. Those who successfully complete the course's 100-question final exam receive a certificate jointly issued by AHLEI and ISPA.

Risk Management for Spas is the seventh project jointly developed and marketed by AHLEI and ISPA. Others include:

  • Spa: A Comprehensive Introduction (textbook and DVD)
  • Retail Management for Spas (textbook)
  • Uniform System of Financial Reporting for Spas (textbook)
  • Supervisory Skill Builders for the Spa Industry (workbooks)
  • Certified Spa Supervisor (professional certification)

Another new textbook, Financial Management for Spas, is planned for publication this fall.

Risk Management for Spas is available for $200 for AH&LA and ISPA members, and $245 for nonmembers. To enroll, call EI's Distance Learning department at 800-390-8399 or 517-372-8800, or visit www.ahlei.org/distancelearning to enroll online.
