Interstate Hotels & Resorts today announced that the Company has expanded its signed and managed hotels to 13 with the April 1 management transition of The Turtle on the Beach and Estuary Island Resort in India, both owned by Thomas Hotels and Resorts.

"Since introducing our dedicated, owner-focused hotel management platform in India in 2008 with our joint venture partner, JHM, we have gained significant momentum. The hotel real estate industry in India is rapidly emerging and we are uniquely positioned as a quality operating partner experienced with leading international brands, ground-up construction, and landmark independent hotels and resorts," said Jim Abrahamson, Interstate's chief executive officer, in Mumbai for the 8th annual Hotel Investment Conference South Asia (HICSA). "India plays a key role in our global strategy, and we have the scale, resources, proprietary systems and experienced operators to benefit owners of both individual hotels and multi-hotel portfolios. We currently have 13 hotels managed or signed in top-tier markets throughout the country and have a strong foundation for future expansion."

In addition to several projects previously announced, including the recently opened, five-star independent Rajasthali Resort and Spa in Jaipur, JHM Interstate India is in the process of converting two hotels to the Ramada brand, the Madhuban Hotel Dehradun and the Madhuban Highlands Mussoorie, and has executed management agreements for a 140-room four-star hotel in Gurgaon Haryana and the 65-room, five-star Bahra Mountain Resort and Spa Mashobra.

"India is one of the world's fastest growing tourism destinations with more than 25.8 million international visitors and 740 million domestic vacationers, who in 2010 alone, came to enjoy the country's rich cultural history and vast natural resources," Abrahamson said. "As the hotel industry seeks to satisfy the demand for quality lodging, we are committed to delivering a world-class guest experience and driving superior returns to owners."

JHM Interstate Hotels India is a 50/50 joint venture between Interstate Hotels & Resorts and JHM Hotels.
