Scandic opens new hotel in Kristiansand
Scandic is continuing its expansion in the Nordic market, with today's opening of Scandic Kristiansand Bystranda in Norway. The hotel is situated in idyllic Bystranda, in the centre of Kristiansand, with over 800 beds and 229 rooms, 23 of which are adapted for disabled guests. Scandic Kristiansand Bystranda, which is Nordic Ecolabelled, offers design and architecture clearly inspired by mankind's relationship with the sea.
With its newest hotel, Scandic is investing further in innovative, environmentally aware and exciting design solutions. The hotel is located in the middle of town, right on the coast and next door to Aquarama, whose facilities include a fitness centre, a spa and one of Norway's largest water parks.
"Scandic is growing and we are constantly on the hunt for hotel projects in great locations. We've found a real treasure with Scandic Kristiansand Bystranda – one of the finest hotels in Norway, right on the beach but at the same time in the heart of town. Finally, Kristiansand has a hotel that offers the very best for holidaymakers and business travellers alike. During the summer, we'll be focusing on families and tourists, while in the winter the focus will be on courses and conferences," says Svein Arild Steen-Mevold, Vice President Scandic Norway.
Bringing the ocean in From the hotel there are fantastic views of the beach, the harbour and the rest of the archipelago. The interplay between people and the sea is also reflected in the interiors, with colours inspired by the harbour in Kristiansand and the surrounding area.
Swedish interior design company Krook & Tjäder has been responsible for designing the rooms and the public spaces at the new hotel.
Accessibility at the hotel The new hotel has naturally been built to meet all 110 points in Scandic's Accessibility Standard. With the help of smart solutions, being a guest at Scandic is easy, whether you are hard of hearing, use a wheelchair or have some other disability. 23 rooms are adapted for guests with special needs.
Eco-awareness on the seafront Scandic leads the industry with its very own award-winning environmental programme, which means that sound environmental, economic and social considerations feature in all operational decisions. The new hotel in Kristiansand is also Nordic Ecolabelled, ensuring extremely low energy consumption and good waste management.
