Sweden leading in the swathe of proposed hotel developments in Scandinavia
Scandinavia is set to receive a slew of new hotels openings over the coming years. 50 new projects will give the Northern European region an additional key-count of 10,972. The properties will be spread over Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Denmark, with Sweden hosting the lion's share of new hotels, 20 in total. 15 are to be constructed in Norway, 6 in Finland, 5 in Denmark and 4 in Iceland, following the predictable hierarchy of landmass...
As would also be expected, the capital cities of these Nordic countries will receive the highest concentration of new openings. Stockholm has the most with 8 new projects to open there, nearly half of all the new openings in the country. TOPHOTELNEWS reported recently on developments in the area and noted that local hotel group Scandic is set to construct many of the new hotels in the region, increasing their already prolific share in the market. Helsinki will see 4 new openings, while 3 new hotels will open in Oslo. 32 of the planned hotels will claim the luxury of a 5-star rating, while the remaining 18 hotels will be in the 4-star category.
13 project will open this year, and the majority of the 17 projects set to open in 2018 are currently under construction, leaving just 4 projects to welcome guests in 2019 and 16 projected openings from 2020 onwards. All in all, the Scandinavian hospitality market will be significantly boosted by the swathe of proposed developments, as the region continues to attract tourists and travelers to its shores to take advantage of the incredible landscapes and unique culture on offer.
