New Hong Kong hotel constructions indicate continued growth in China
Two new projects in Hong Kong point to the continued health of the Chinese tourism industry. Often cited as one of the fastest growing hospitality industries in the world, China is seeing urban centres as well as more rural areas finding a boost in their economy owing to increased local and international tourism to the region, all of which means good news for hotel developers and investors.
Ocean Hotel Hong Kong Marriott will be a 470-key, luxury 5-star resort that is set to open in the fourth quarter of 2018. Located in front of Hong Kong's famous Ocean Park, the main rival to amusement park goliath Hong Kong Disneyland and a complex which received a HK$5.5 billion investment to make it the world's 13th most visited theme park, this new hotel will host some of the 7 million visitors that enter the park each year. Spread over 34,000m2 the hotel will be composed of three separate hotel wings of 6 storeys each, organised around a central courtyard. The hotel will provide business and leisure facilities, as well as a new interface between tourists and Ocean Park.
The Murray a Niccolo Hotel, is a beautiful conversion of an existing building, which was built in 1969 and has architectural features of historical significance, such as the distinctive arches on the first floor facades, which form a classical plinth on top of which more modern, honeycomb volume sits. 27 floors of guest suites will be provided, offering a total key count of 336, as well as wellness facilities, conference and business rooms, and recreational areas such as four new restaurants and a rooftop bar.
