What’s Going on in Russia?
In the global hospitality industry, Russia can be a bit under the radar at times, but a closer look into what's going on there is likely to reveal exciting conditions, a diverse array of geography, and mega hotels in the pipeline that are on par with the largest new construction in the world.
Perhaps the best way to get a sense of what's happening as it pertains to the global hospitality industry in any given country, is to take a look at some of the largest construction projects that are underway there. Thanks to information from the TOPHOTELPROJECTS database, we were recently able to do just that.
Here's what we found:
Galaktika Park Hotels
Galaktika Park Hotels is currently in the planning phase, with a projected opening date sometime in the first quarter of 2018. Once completed, this property will boast 1,100 first class / upper upscale / upscale rooms for guests. It's a $117 million mixed-use complex south of Moscow at the junction of the Varshavskoye Highway and the Moscow Ring Road. This is truly an elaborate project, one that will have an amusement park within it. In addition to the hotel space, it will also consist of offices, conference venues, retail locations, and an aquapark. This is a property to watch, for sure.
Selena Resort and Spa
The Selena Resort and Spa is a new hotel and entertainment complex being planned for the Primorskiy Region. Currently under construction, once completed this luxury property will boast two hotels, a casino, six different bars, a number of restaurants and many options for shopping. There will be two different hotels in the Selena Resort and Spa property—one of which is four stars and the other of which is five. The 4-star hotel will consist of 250 rooms, while its 5-star sister hotel will feature 475.
Azimut Hotel Moscow Smolenskaya
Unlike the previous entries on this list, the Azimut Hotel Moscow Smolenskaya has already opened its doors after a refurbishment project. During the renovation, facades and glazing of the 20-story building were fully renewed. The entrance was also refurbished and renewed, while new parking and other adjoining additions were brought to the property. The actual room capacity of the hotel was also bolstered up to 474 rooms, while one floor was dedicated entirely to conference halls, 6 different spaces in fact, which are all equipped with modern multimedia equipment and capacities that range from 50 to 250 occupants. One of the most impressive features of this project, however was the new retail space, which occupies the entire second floor. Also new is a modern fitness center on the 20th floor, where guests can enjoy a panoramic Moscow view from one of the highest points in the area.
