Best known as an architect, interior designer and landscape designer who has brought to life over 200 resorts, hotels and palaces in more than 30 countries, few may know that Bill Bensley is also an artist.

Bensley’s first exhibition of artworks painted over the past three years during Bill's travels across Asia and in his studio, Baan Botanica in Bangkok, is called ‘The Outsider Art of Bill Bensley’. The exhibition will open in the RCB Galleria at River City Bangkok in September. The exhibition of 90 pieces is presented in five chapters: Environmentalism, Pestilence, Racism, Idiosyncratic behaviours of the LGBTQ community, and Dreams.

In advance of the exhibition, 10 paintings have been personally selected by Bill for auction on the international stage. As with the artworks sold at the exhibition, a minimum of 80% of the sales proceeds will be donated towards Shinta Mani Foundation and Wildlife Alliance.

Commenting on his first exhibition and auction of his artworks, Bensley said, “This is my first ever public exhibition and I am intrepid! I have always loved art, and been envious of great artists as they make it look so easy. I enjoy art that seems accessible - that I feel as though I could do it myself. I suppose that is why I have always liked the genre of Outsider art as it welcomes one and all, while still holding a challenge for the artist. Art is, to me, very much about storytelling, teaching, and making a difference - I paint, always, to raise funds for people in need, and to protect our Mother Earth, via the Wildlife Alliance and Shinta Mani Foundation."

Managing Director of Riverside Auction House which operations RCB Auctions Linda Cheng joined in Bill’s enthusiasm. “We are thrilled to be introducing Bill Bensley as an artist to the world. An international celebrity architect and designer, now will join the ranks of some of the world’s best contemporary artists.”

Ten paintings from the upcoming exhibition The Outsider Art of Bill Bensley’ will be opened for bidding on World Environment Day, Saturday 5 June with bids accepted until Wednesday 30 June (midnight Bangkok time).
