Meliá Hotels International is considered one of the leading companies in terms of sustainability in the MERCO ESG Responsibility ranking, in which it is both one of the top 100 most responsible Spanish companies and leader in the ranking for companies in Hospitality and Tourism.
The ranking is prepared by MERCO, a market leader in the assessment of corporate reputation, and is based on an assessment by participants including experts in ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance). More than 49,000 surveys and other sources of information are used to gather the opinions of stakeholders and then different variables such as ethics and good governance, and responsible behaviour towards employees, customers, society and the environment are compared. Meliá leads the industry both in the general ranking and in the Environment and Ethics and Corporate Governance dimensions.
Thanks to its firm commitment to sustainability, this exhaustive assessment has once again positioned Meliá Hotels International as one of the most responsible companies in Spain and a firm leader in the travel industry. This recognition is in addition to others that the hotel company achieved in 2022, such as being named the most sustainable hotel company in the world in the Corporate Sustainability Assessment prepared by S&P Global.
After learning about the results, the Executive Vice President and CEO of Meliá, Gabriel Escarrer, declared that he felt proud to once again be amongst what MERCO names as the "leading organisations", developing and transforming the company by focusing on the environment, a responsible approach to people (employees, customers, society) and ethics in corporate governance.
