Have you ever wanted to walk the same streets as your favorite fictional character, or check into a hotel with a stack of novels waiting on the bedside table?
That’s the idea behind book-inspired travel (also called literary travel): planning trips inspired by novels, authors, or beloved book settings.
According to the Skyscanner report, “55% of travelers have booked or would consider booking a trip inspired by literature.” From visiting destinations featured in novels to planning entire reading-focused retreats, stories are shaping where people go next.
So how are hotels responding?
- Loews Hotels & Co introduced curated reading lists and digital book access as part of their guest programming.
- The Loutrel have launched “blind date with a book” packages.
- In its article “Literary travel ideas for every kind of book lover”, National Geographic highlights hotels hosting author talks, literary salons, and book-centered cultural programming.
A novel can shape how we see a city. A memoir can inspire a journey. Hotels that understand this are creating spaces for reflection, imagination, and slower, more intentional travel. Sometimes the best itinerary starts with a book.
