196+ forum Munich: 24 hotels from eleven countries compete for the European “Hotel Property Award 2026”
24 hotels from 11 European countries are competing for the Hotel Property Award 2026, with the ceremony set for 7 October at Hotel Bayerischer Hof Munich.
Munich – A total of 24 hotels from eleven countries have entered this year's competition for the European “Hotel Property Award 2026”, which has been presented for the past 24 years as part of the 196+ forum Munich conference. This year's award ceremony will once again take place at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof Munich on Wednesday, 7 October.
This year's range of submissions takes the interdisciplinary jury to European capitals such as Madrid, Paris, Rome, Stockholm and Vienna, but also back to the Croatian Adriatic coast, for the first time to the West Bohemian Spa Triangle, as well as to an East Frisian island and a small island off Bergen in Norway, back to the Dutch North Sea coast, across the Bergisches Land region, the German-French border region in Saarland and to Baden-Baden, then to one of Italy's best-known winter sports destinations and across the Bavarian Alpine foothills to an established thermal spa town in Hungary. In addition, the diverse European business centres of Barcelona, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Linz in Upper Austria and Milan are represented in the competition.
The diversity of concepts in a wide range of urban (13) and predominantly leisure hotel destinations (11) once again underlines the industry's innovative strength. At the same time, it demonstrates that the boundaries between working and travelling, relaxing and travelling, or combining both within one trip, are becoming increasingly blurred.

Hotels newly built and opened in Europe between January 2025 and June 2026, or hotels that were completely closed, comprehensively redeveloped and repositioned, were eligible to participate in this year's competition. During the jury meeting in early September, up to ten nominees will be selected from all valid entries and presented and honoured at the 196+ forum Munich conference.
The evaluation of the submitted entries is based on the interaction of the following criteria, regardless of the hotel's category: architecture and design, integration into the project environment, sustainability and technical innovation, originality of the concept, and economic viability.
