Three Ways Hotels Are Turning Blue Mind into Guest Experiences
Three hospitality approaches to Blue Mind wellness are emerging: designing water into the guest environment, offering immersive water-based activities, and using water directly as a therapeutic medium.

Do you have a beautiful waterfront location? Then ask yourself: how can you use water to shape the guest’s entire stay?
For decades, a sea view, beachfront setting or infinity pool has been among the most desirable assets in hospitality. But in 2026, the opportunity may be moving beyond simply being beside the water.
Here are three approaches emerging in contemporary hospitality.
1. Design Around Water
The first approach is perhaps the most fundamental: make water part of the environment in which guests live.
Rather than treating the sea or pool as something guests visit occasionally, hotels can integrate water into the architecture and rhythm of the stay. Guestrooms, restaurants, terraces, pools and relaxation spaces can all create repeated opportunities to see, hear or experience water.
NIKO Seaside Resort in Crete, part of MGallery Collection, provides an example. The property positions its rooms, suites, restaurants and terraces toward uninterrupted sea views, with many rooms featuring private plunge pools and infinity edges. MGallery's 2026 report uses the resort as an example of how water can become an ongoing presence throughout the guest journey.
2. Immerse Guests in Water
The second approach moves from looking at water to interacting with it. Water-based activities are not new to resorts, and the changing is how they can be framed as part of a broader wellness journey.
The InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort, for example, introduced a Blue Mind Escapes programme in December 2025. The experience combines overwater meditation, snorkelling, spa treatments and other activities designed around the restorative qualities of the surrounding marine environment.
This approach treats water as the medium through which guests experience the destination. A similar philosophy can be seen at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands. Its Blue Prescription in 2025, brings together daily meditation, floating breakfasts, floating sound baths, guided snorkelling, ocean-side bodywork, marine experiences and a sunset yacht journey.
The significance is that these experiences can be connected into a full-day or multi-day narrative. A resort can create a "day in the blue": wake beside the ocean, meditate by the water, explore the reef, enjoy a treatment overlooking the lagoon and end the day on the sea.
3. Use Water as a Wellness Medium
The third approach goes one step further: water itself becomes part of the wellness treatment.
This is where Blue Mind intersects most directly with the rapidly evolving wellness hospitality sector.
The Ritz-Carlton Maldives offers a good current example. Its 2025 Blue Prescription includes floating sound baths and ocean-side bodywork, alongside meditation and other water-connected rituals. The resort positions these experiences around the restorative qualities of its ocean environment.
From Waterfront Asset to Guest Experience
As the examples above illustrate, hotels are currently translating the concept in three distinct ways: by designing around water, where views, architecture and public spaces create repeated encounters with it; by immersing guests in water, through activities such as swimming, snorkelling, sailing and meditation; and by using water as a wellness medium, with experiences like floating sound baths and water-based treatments that make water itself part of the restorative journey. Together, these approaches intentionally shapes how guests feel throughout their stay. So, among these three approaches, where does your hotel or resort belong? Or perhaps you have your own idea for turning water into a memorable guest experience?
