The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 Announces The Extended 51-100 List

With two weeks to go until The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 list is revealed, 50 Best unveils the hotels ranked from No.51 to No.100. This recently expanded list underscores 50 Best's commitment to recognising a broader spectrum of outstanding hospitality experiences. By shining a spotlight on more destinations, more hotels and the inspirational people behind them, it offers a more complete picture of the properties influencing the future of global travel, all connected by an unwavering commitment to exceptional hospitality. 

The list is determined by the votes of more than 800 anonymous experts from The World’s 50 Best Hotels Academy, representing a balanced mix of hoteliers, travel journalists, educators and experienced luxury travellers. Each Academy member has been carefully selected by a team of industry-leading Academy Chairs. Together, these hotels showcase the very best in hospitality and set the stage for the unveiling of The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 ranking in Paris on Tuesday 15 September.

The 51-100 List in Numbers

• 10 independent hotels are featured on the list, with Il San Pietro di Positano ranking highest at No.58
• The list spans 23 different territories and 40 cities
• Asia has the highest number of hotels of any continent, with 20 properties featured, followed closely by Europe with 16
• Hotels in Italy take the lead in Europe, with nine properties on the list
• Nine properties appear from North America, five of which are in the US, with three located in New York City

Since launching in 2023, The World’s 50 Best Hotels has set out to unite the travel and hospitality industry from all corners of the globe to celebrate the world’s leading hotels. Following the introduction of the extended 51-100 list in 2025, the 50 Best community now welcomes more hotels into the fold, highlighting an even wider range of hotels and individuals setting the standard for excellence in the travel industry.

The 51–100 list recognises 50 more exceptional hotels that represent the very best of global hospitality. This extended list broadens the spotlight to a remarkable community of properties and the passionate people who bring them to life - each one defining what great hospitality means today. Every hotel here has earned its place through our expert Academy’s votes and we hope their achievements will go on to inspire future travels.

Asia tops the list with 20 hotels ranked and seven properties in Japan

Janu Tokyo comes in first for Japan at No.52. Other new entries in Japan’s capital include Park Hyatt Tokyo (No.53), The Okura (No.69) and Palace Hotel Tokyo (No.73). Also in the city, Hoshinoya Tokyo is No.85. Elsewhere in Japan, Hotel The Mitsui in Kyoto is No.79 and Waldorf Astoria Osaka has entered the list at No.89. 

Two hotels in Hong Kong have made the list, with Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong taking the No.59 spot, while Four Seasons Hong Kong is No.86. Two hotels in Mainland China have entered the list: Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen at No.90 and The Peninsula Shanghai at No.99. India has two hotels included, an independent hotel in Jaipur, The Johri (No.94) and The Oberoi Udaivilas (No.98) in Udaipur, which features on the list for the first time.

Elsewhere in Asia, Soneva Fushi in the Maldives is included at No.55. Indonesia’s Mandapa in Bali is No.61, closely followed by Rosewood Bangkok (No.70) in Thailand and Sri Lanka’s Amangalla (No.71) in Galle. Capella Hanoi in Vietnam enters the list for the first time at No.81, along with another new entry: Wynn Palace (No.96) in Macau. Capella Singapore re-enters the list at No.97.

Europe is represented by 16 hotels, spanning both newly opened properties and long-established favourites

La Réserve Paris re-enters and tops the extended list at No.51. France is home to three other properties, including new entries Ritz Paris at No.72 and Carlton Cannes (No.80). The Maybourne Riviera has also re-entered the list at No.93.

 Italy is the European country with the highest number of hotels included, with nine properties featured. Il San Pietro di Positano (No.58) is Italy’s highest new entry, whilst Castiglion del Bosco in Montalcino (No.62), Orient Express La Minerva in Rome (No.66), Forestis Dolomites (No.68) in Brixen and Villa Treville in Positano (No.91) all enter the list for the first time. Splendido in Portofino comes in at No.60, followed by Borgo Santandrea in Amalfi at No.84 and Borgo Egnazia in Savelletri at No.88. Reschio in Lisciano Niccone has ranked at No.95. 

Elsewhere on the continent, the UK features two hotels on the list: new entry Rosewood London (No.56) and Gleneagles (No.100) in Auchterarder. In Türkiye, independently owned Maçakızı in Bodrum has placed at No.76.

North America is home to a total of nine hotels

Of the nine hotels in North America, the highest entry is Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles at No.57. Elsewhere in Los Angeles, The Beverly Hills Hotel is ranked at No.65. New York City is home to three properties on the 51-100 list: The Fifth Avenue Hotel (No.78), which is also this year’s winner of the American Express Travel One To Watch Award, along with Aman New York (No.87) and The Greenwich Hotel (No.92).

Further afield, Mexico has three hotels included: Hotel Esencia in Tulum, which has re-entered the list at No.64, along with Montage Los Cabos (No.67) in Cabo San Lucas and Four Seasons Tamarindo (No.74) in La Manzanilla. Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo in Panama City has also entered the list for the first time at No.63.

South America is home to two properties in the ranking, including Palacio Nazarenas (No.54) in Cusco, Peru and Hotel das Cataratas in Brazil’s Iguassu Falls (No.77).

Oceania is home to two hotels, while Morocco represents Africa with one hotel included

In Morocco, La Mamounia has placed at No.75, while hotels in Oceania featured in the list are New Zealand’s Huka Lodge (No.82) in Taupō and The Calile (No.83) in Brisbane, Australia.

The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 list will be announced on Tuesday 15 September at an awards ceremony at Les Salles du Carrousel, Paris and will also be streamed live on the 50 Best YouTube channel via the link here. The announcement of the list and individual awards can be followed via the 50 Best social media channels, with the livestream beginning at 20:00 Paris time.

How the voting works

The Academy is the mechanism used to create The World’s 50 Best Hotels list. None of the employees of 50 Best nor any sponsors associated with the awards has any influence over the results. To ensure the more than 800-voter-strong Academy provides a fair representation of the global hotel scene, the Academy Chairs are split across 13 geographical regions. Each Chair is selected as an expert on the travel scene in their region, with outstanding hotel sector contacts. These Chairs each select a voting panel, ensuring a balanced selection of hoteliers, travel journalists, hotel educators, business travellers and consumer travel aficionados. A minimum of 25% of the panel will be renewed each year. All voters, aside from the Academy Chairs, will remain anonymous to eliminate the possibility of lobbying.

Each Academy member can vote for any hotel they have stayed in around the world, irrespective of their home region. Each voter casts seven votes for hotels in order of preference based on stays experienced in the three-year voting period. Voting is carried out individually and strictly confidentially on a secure site and remains confidential before the list announcement. Academy Chairs are not privy to, nor have any knowledge of, the votes cast by the voters in their respective regions; furthermore, they are not official spokespeople for the 50 Best brand.
