- In spite of all the media hype and the discovery of dead ducks in the ponds of the Ain region and the alarmist declarations of the professional tourism organizations that already claim for public compensations, the hotel customers of the Ain département did not desert the area.
- In the cities close to the zone where the infected ducks were found, the traffic difficulties due to the precautionary measures that were taken by the public authorities have slightly decreased the activity during several days, but the daily barometer of the MKG database allows us to observe that the level of activity has recovered very rapidly.
- The school holidays have rather benefited the hotel activity in the hotels of the département located along the way to the ski stations. Globally, the occupancy rate increases by 2,4 points from one year to another and the RevPAR by more than 11%.
- In full period of school holidays for the Academies outside the Paris area, the hotel activity of the Ain département, on the road to the Alpine mountains, was not disturbed by the discovery of ducks suffering from the bird flue. The occupancy rates throughout the month have steadily exceeded 80%, with the exception of weekends, including after the announcement of the discovery of the first dead duck on the 23rd of February.
- Over the whole month, the occupancy rate increased by 2,4 points from one year to another. Around Versailleux, the zone where the infected ducks were found, an episodic decrease was observed for a few days, linked to the traffic difficulties created by the sanitary security perimeter that was set by the local authorities. However, the activity level of the zone has rapidly resumed to the same growth as that of all the establishments of the region, stimulated by the traffic of the business travelers and the holiday makers on the way to or return from the Alpine mountains.
- The average room rate has increased in a significant way, sign of a better customer mix with a higher contribution than in the past, generating a two digit increase in Revenue per available room. If restaurant owners are undergoing the disaffection of poultry consumers, the situation of the hotel trade is far from being upset by the first cases of bird flue. The call for emergency measures from certain professional organizations seems very premature and rather likely to generate a psychosis which does not manifest itself
