Asia is the world’s most inhabited region, with a population of more than 3.5 billion. During 2006, they were joined by 167m international arrivals, making the region the second most favoured destination after Europe. According to the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) arrivals were up by a further 9.7% in the first quarter of 2007, compared to a 7.8% rise in the whole of 2006, showing acceleration in demand.
