Carissa Smith has been appointed as Director, Sales and Marketing at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa

Smith is no stranger to Omni Hotels & Resorts or Austin. She has spent her illustrious 19-year career at the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown where she most recently served as director of sales and marketing. Smith started at the property in 1995 as an intern. After accepting the full-time position of conference planning assistant that same year, she was named the catering sales manager the following year. Smith held several other positions before she became the director of sales in 2004, and served in that role for five years until her promotion to director of sales and marketing in 2009.

John Dallas has been appointed as General Manager at Sonesta Bee Cave Austin

In previous positions, John worked for large management companies including Marriott International, Interstate Hotels and Resorts, and White Lodging Services as well as smaller management companies - McKibbon Hotel Management and JHM Hotels. John brings with him a combination of business acumen, a passion for serving the guest and empowering team members and, as a UT alumnus and local resident, a personal connection to the Sonesta Bee Cave Austin and its surrounding community.

Juan E. Martinez has been appointed as Executive Chef at JW Marriott Austin

The JW Marriott Austin recently hired executive chef Juan Martinez to oversee the hotel’s three in-house restaurants, as well as all of the hotel’s culinary operations for banquets, meetings, catering and more. Martinez has more than 15 years of experience in the culinary and hospitality industry. Before joining the JW Marriott Austin, he served as executive chef at the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort, Golf Club & Spa for three years.

Jon Legalos has been promoted to General Manager at Courtyard Austin Airport

Previously, Legalos was the general manager at the Courtyard San Antonio airport/Northstar. Legalos brings 12 years of experience as executive director/owner of House at Cedar Ridge, Inc., an Alzheimer's Care Facility, in Leander, Texas. Prior to this business, Jon was general manager at a La Quinta Inn and Suites in Austin. Jon also worked for White Lodging from 1997-1998 as the operations manager at the Courtyard Midway. From 1993-1997, Jon gained hospitality experience at properties such as Marriott's Lincolnshire Resort in Illinois and Marriott's Tar Tar A Resort in Missouri.

Lance Taylor has been named General Manager at Courtyard Austin North

Previously, Lance was the general manager at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Lakeway, Texas. Lance brings over 17 years of hospitality experience to his new position including experience with hotels such as the Dallas Marriott Las Colinas, Radisson Hotel and Suites in Austin, Hilton Austin Hotel, Stephen F. Austin Inter-Continental Hotel and the Sheraton Hotel in Austin. During his time a contract manager for Towne Park, Lance hired, trained, supervised and established hotel practices for hotels in New Orleans, Houston, Nashville, St. Louis, Baltimore, Annapolis and Philadelphia.

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants Announces Plans to Expand Texas Presence with New Hotel in Austin’s Historic Rainey Street District

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced today it will expand its footprint in Texas with the management of a new four-star boutique hotel in Austin's historic Rainey Street District. Slated for an early 2015 opening, the new construction, 16-story hotel will feature 322 guest rooms, more than 12,000 square feet total event and meeting space, an individually concepted, chef-driven restaurant, lobby cafe and an expansive pool deck and bar. Located at the intersection of Red River and Davis Streets in the heart of the Rainey District's thriving nightlife scene, the Hotel Van Zandt will be just minutes away from the convention center and many other popular downtown Austin attractions. Renowned interior designer Mark Zeff will oversee the interior design of the Hotel Van Zandt and its still-to-be-named restaurant.

Scott Blalock has been appointed as General Manager at JW Marriott Austin

JW Marriott Austin is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Blalock as general manager of the new hotel slated to open in March 2015. A 25-year hospitality industry veteran, Blalock brings extensive operational, sales and administrative experience to the JW Marriott Austin. He has worked for the hotel's developer, White Lodging, since 2006 after more than 18 years of service with Marriott International.

David Malmberg has been promoted to General Manager at Courtyard and Residence Inn Austin Downtown Convention Center

David Malmberg has been promoted to general manager of the Courtyard and Residence Inn Austin Downtown Convention Center properties. Prior to joining White Lodging in 2011, Malmberg spent nine years in St. Kitts, West Indies. During that time he was the director of restaurant and bar operations, director of catering operations and a sales executive with Marriott. Additionally, Malmberg had success with his own beach bar while on the island. Other Marriott experience includes being the restaurant general manager for the Mansion Restaurant in Lexington, Ky. and assistant restaurant manager for the Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, Mo.

Tom Stoffo has been named 2013 Certified Hospitality Technology Professional (CHTP) of the Year at Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP®)

Now in its 16th year, the award honors the individual who scored highest on the CHTP certification exam during the April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013 time period. Stoffo will accept the award during the opening session of the 2013 Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference (HITEC®) on Monday, June 24 in Minneapolis, Minn. At Mainsail Lodging & Development, Stoffo oversees the information systems for the corporate entity, Mainsail Lodging & Development, as well as their properties, including Mainsail Suites and Conference Center, Execustay, Mainsail Beach Inn and Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina.
