The St. Regis Bangkok has named Andreas Oberoi as General Manager, Guenter H. Gebhard as Hotel Manager, Henry P. Sears as Director of Rooms, Holger Jakobs as Director of Sales and Marketing.
An Australian national, Mr. Brown has almost 30 years experience in the hotel industry, including well-known hotel brands such as Hyatt Hotels in Australia and England, JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur, New World Renaissance hotels Kuala Lumpur, Renaissance international Western Australia, Sydney Renaissance Hotel, New South Wales. Prior to joining the Chatrium Suites Bangkok, he was General Manager of the Eastern and Oriental Hotel and Lone Pine hotel in Penang, and most recently as pre-opening General Manager of the Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort, Pattaya.
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) today announced that a Crowne Plaza hotel will replace the Pan Pacific Bangkok, marking the entry of the brand to the capital of Thailand. The rebranding will come into effect 1 January 2011, making Crowne Plaza Bangkok Lumpini Park the fifth IHG property in Bangkok.

As the Thai government launches a campaign to woo back tourists after recent rioting here, its world-renowned hospitality industry is facing another threat: stiffer competition from neighboring countries working to increase their visitors. Thailand's tourism industry is suffering from the recent two-month-long antigovernment protests, which ended on May 19 with 88 people dead and some of the capital's most popular shopping areas in flames. Hotels across the country are reporting less than 50% occupancy after many tourists changed their holiday plans to avoid the trouble.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has announced that Kurt Wachtveitl will retire after 41 years as General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok effective 31 May 2009. He will be succeeded by Jan Goessing, a long term hotel industry veteran who has spent the past 14 years with Mandarin Oriental in senior management positions throughout Asia and The Americas, including the Group’s flagship hotel in Hong Kong. From 1998 to 2006, Mr Goessing was General Manager of the Group’s former property in Hawaii, Kahala Mandarin Oriental, during which time it became well established as one of the best urban resorts in the region, winning many important international accolades and awards. Since early 2006, he has been General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Washington DC and has been instrumental in positioning the property as one of the city’s most luxurious hotels. During his tenure the hotel has been presented with numerous awards, including “Best Hotel in the World” from Institutional Investor in 2007 and “Top Hotels in the USA” in the 2008 Zagat survey.
