Fairmont Hotels & Resorts to Raise Flag in Barcelona

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, a luxury brand in the FRHI Hotels & Resorts (FRHI) portfolio, today announced it will manage the 432-room Hotel Rey Juan Carlos I in Barcelona, Spain. Fairmont will assume management of the property and will officially rebrand the hotel Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos I, Barcelona this autumn. The partner for this agreement is Barcelona Projects and JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group was retained to run the operator selection process.

Hotel Arts Barcelona has appointed Michelin starred Spanish Chef Antonio Saez as its new Executive Chef. Saez will oversee the kitchens at Hotel Arts and develop the hotel’s catering line. Originally from the city of Sabadell in Catalonia, Saez has honed his culinary skills in Michelin starred restaurants in Barcelona, San Sebastian and Abu Dhabi.

Marriott Sells Interests in Renaissance Barcelona Hotel for €78 Million

Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) today announced that it has sold its leasehold interests in the Renaissance Barcelona Hotel to an affiliate of the Qatar Armed Forces Investment Portfolio (QAFIP) for approximately €78 million including €45 million ($62 million) cash and the assumption of €33 million ($45 million) of related obligations. The hotel will continue to be operated by Marriott under a long-term management contract.
