Ricardo Jarquin has been appointed as Executive Chef at Loews Coral Gables Hotel

Loews Coral Gables Hotel, opening November 3, 2022, is pleased to announce Ricardo Jarquin as Executive Chef. In this role, Chef Jarquin will spearhead all culinary aspects of the new 242-room hotel, located in the heart of The Plaza Coral Gables. This includes the development and implementation of menus and culinary points of view for all dining outlets, banquet functions and curated hotel culinary programming.

NP International Launches New Hotel Brand - THēsis Hotels

NP International today announced the launch of THēsis Hotels with their first property set to open in Coral Gables, Florida this March. THēsis Hotel Miami, part of the Paseo de la Riviera mixed use development, will feature 245 guest rooms, two chef-driven restaurants, contemporary co-working spaces, and a wide range of community-inspired events and experiences.

Ian Robert McClendon has been appointed as General Manager at Hotel Colonnade

A Seattle native, McClendon was inspired by hospitality at an early age by his mother who was fond of hosting over-the-top dinner parties for friends and family. McClendon got his start more than a decade ago and has held GM positions for hospitality groups such as sbe Entertainment Group (Los Angeles, Miami, and New York) and Kimpton Hotels and Resorts (Santa Barbara and Goleta, Calif.), as well as director of rooms at Benchmark Resorts and Hotels (Santa Fe, N.M., and Woodinville, Wash.), among others.

Lisa Hamilton has been named President at Caribbean Society of Hotel Association Executives (CSHAE)

At its recent Annual General Meeting (AGM), held prior to Caribbean Travel Marketplace, members of the Caribbean Society of Hotel Association Executives (CSHAE) elected its leadership and Board of Directors to guide the region's association executives during the 2012-13 term. CSHAE executives also hammered out a strategic plan for the region's hotel associations and agreed to renew financial support for the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association Education Foundation's (CHTAEF) Haiti Relief Fund which provides training programs to help rebuild the nation's tourism talent base, much of which was lost as a result of the devastating earthquake two years ago.

Joni Dooley Barkley has been named Member of Visit Florida's Sales Committee at VISIT FLORIDA

Hawks Cay, a premier resort in the Florida Keys, announced today that Director of Sales Joni Dooley Barkley has been elected to serve on the sales committee of VISIT FLORIDA, the state’s official tourism marketing organization. As a committee member, Barkley will provide strategic counsel on all matters related to VISIT FLORIDA’s sales activities, from participating in trade and consumer shows to strengthening tour operator, travel agent and meeting planner relationships. A 20-year veteran of the hospitality industry, Barkley leads Hawks Cay’s sales team to provide small, midsize and large groups with an experience that goes beyond the meeting and leisure time expectations. Prior to her tenure at Hawks Cay, Barkley was the director of sales and marketing with the Casa Monica Hotel in St. Augustine and served as the national sales manager for The Ritz Carlton, Palm Beach and Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach. She is a graduate of the University of Florida’s College of Communications with a major in journalism. She is also a Certified Hospitality Sales Professional (CHSP).

Tyler Orwig has been appointed as Director of Sales & Marketing at Hyatt Regency Coral Gables

Prior to his appointment at Hyatt Regency Coral Gables, Tyler was part of a successful opening sales team at Grand Hyatt San Antonio. His expertise was essential in achieving record sales for the hotel. A Pennsylvania State University alumnus, Tyler holds a Bachelor of Science in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management and is currently a member of the American Society of Association Executives. Located in the heart of historic downtown Coral Gables and walking distance from the Miracle Mile, December marked the completion of a $10 million transformation of the hotel. The luxurious new rooms have a chic Moorish design to reflect the hotel’s decor theme, which pays tribute to the Alhambra Palace in Spain.
