Simon McHendry has been appointed as General Manager at The Upper House

Simon is poised to further build The Upper House's global stature and shape the future of its signature dining destinations. In addition, he will oversee Swire Hotels' sales and revenue team, aligning group performance with long-term strategic growth. A seasoned hotelier with over 28 years of experience in hospitality and commerce, Simon joined the group as General Manager of EAST Beijing in 2016, before moving to The Temple House in Chengdu in 2019, where under his leadership Mi Xun Teahouse earned its first MICHELIN Star. Most recently, as Head of Development & Projects, Simon led design innovation and refining operations for new hotel openings across the group.

Hong Kong Takes Top Spots in “World’s 50 Best Hotels”

Two of Hong Kong’s hotels have been named the “world’s best.” The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) congratulates Rosewood Hong Kong and The Upper House for coming second and fourth respectively in the inaugural “2023 World’s 50 Best Hotels.” Rosewood Hong Kong has also been named Asia’s Best Hotel. This makes Hong Kong the only city in the world with two hotels ranked among the top 5 and demonstrates the city's top-tier hospitality experience to the world.

Mavis is a seasoned hotelier with over 15 years' experience in marketing and PR across the F&B and hospitality industries. Prior to joining The Murray, Hong Kong, she was the Director of Marketing Communications (Hong Kong) at the Shangri-La Group, helming the Marketing Communications team that oversees four hotels in Hong Kong. Before that, Mavis was the Director of PR & Communications at Cordis, Hong Kong, the flagship property of the Cordis brand under the Langham Hospitality Group.

Anthony Costa has been appointed as General Manager at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong

Anthony Costa has been appointed General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong. Mr Costa began his career with the Group as Resident Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong in January 2007. He was General Manager of The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong for five years before moving to the helm of Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo. During his tenure, the hotel became the first and only hotel in Japan to be awarded the prestigious Forbes Five-Star rating by the annual Forbes Travel Guide Awards.

Jan-Hendrik Meidinger has been appointed as General Manager at The Excelsior

Jan-Hendrik Meidinger  brings 25 years of luxury hospitality experience to Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. He joins The Excelsior from his most recent role as General Manager of Park Hyatt Saigon. Jan-Hendrik joined the Hyatt Group as Assistant Front Office Manager at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong in 1999, and rose to Executive Assistant Manager, Rooms. He was later appointed General Manager of Hyatt Regency Guam in 2010. A German national, Mr Meidinger graduated from the University of Surrey, UK, majoring in International Tourism and Hospitality Management.

Yibing Mao has been appointed as President, Greater China at Marriott International

A native of Beijing who calls Hong Kong home, Ms. Mao joined Marriott in 1996.
