Las Vegas: As megaresort trend fades, companies focus on luxury in ‘small’ settings | reviewjournal.com

Las Vegas is getting smaller. That is, if you call 1,600-room and 1,100-room Strip hotels “boutique” properties. By the end of the year, Las Vegas will have about a half-dozen hotel-casinos that operators classify as “boutique,” “luxury” or “lifestyle” in their marketing efforts. It’s actually not a unique concept. The Hard Rock and The Palms, for example, began as smaller hotel-casinos before expansions grew their room bases.

Matthew Chilton has been appointed as General Manager at Delano Las Vegas

Mandalay Bay has appointed Matthew Chilton General Manager of Delano Las Vegas, the all-suite hotel that will introduce the effortless luxury and unparalleled service of the renowned Delano South Beach to the Las Vegas Strip.Matthew has been in the hospitality industry for nearly two decades and joined Mandalay Bay as Hotel Manager prior to the resort's 1999 grand opening. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Hotel Operations and played a significant role in the property-wide transformation which included the introduction of Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil, Kumi Japanese Restaurant + Bar By Akira Back, Citizens Kitchen & Bar, Rx Boiler Room, DAYLIGHT Beach Club, LIGHT Nightclub and the remodel of Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas. After graduating in 1996, Matthew began his career at The Mirage and Treasure Island and in 1998, joined the soon-to-open Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino where he held several management positions and saw the resort through the grand opening of THEhotel, Convention Center and Shark Reef Aquarium.

Bally's Las Vegas South Tower to become All-New Jubilee Tower

Bally's Las Vegas has announced plans to renovate and rename its existing South tower to the all-new Jubilee Tower, named after the property's iconic show, Jubilee!, which celebrates its 32nd anniversary this summer, making it the longest-running show in Las Vegas. Renovations will include 756 remodeled hotel rooms and suites, which go on sale today for first guest arrivals late summer 2013.

Stowe Shoemaker has been appointed as Dean at UNLV's Harrah College of Hotel Administration

Shoemaker, a Lincy scholar at the Harrah College of Hotel Administration, will assume his new position on July 1, said UNLV's Executive Vice President John Valery White. Shoemaker succeeds Don Snyder, who stepped down to lead the UNLV Now stadium project. Shoemaker has consulting experience in a variety of hospitality fields, including gaming, hotels, airlines, cruise ships and major medical centers. His background is in pricing, revenue management and customer-loyalty programs.
