Modus Hotels and Parkway Corporation broke ground yesterday on Pod Philly, Philadelphia"s first micro-hotel, together with PhiladelphiaCommerce Director, Harold Epps. Modus Hotels, a developer, owner and operator of a diverse collection of lifestyle hotels in Washington DC, Baltimore, Chicago andPhiladelphia, has partnered with Parkway Corporation, a Philadelphia-based family-owned and operated parking, real estate development, and airport services company, to develop the hotel. Parkway has acquired, developed and managed commercial parking facilities across the US and Canada since 1930.

Ben Shank has been appointed as General Manager at Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia at Comcast Center

In preparation for the Four Seasons’ much-anticipated return to Philadelphia, Ben Shank has been appointed as General Manager of the new Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia at Comcast Center. The appointment marks an exciting homecoming for Shank, who started his career in hospitality almost two decades ago at the original Four Seasons in Philadelphia, which the company operated from 1983 to 2015. Having worked his way across the continent and up the ranks with Four Seasons positions in New York, San Diego, Maui, Scottsdale, and Orlando, Shank will be returning to his hometown to take the helm as Four Seasons prepares to open its doors again in Philadelphia. Shank began his career with Four Seasons as a busboy at the popular Fountain Restaurant in Philadelphia before earning a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Penn State University, and ultimately becoming the restaurant’s General Manager. With his keen interest and increasing experience, Shank took leadership roles in the high-energy food and beverage departments at Four Seasons in New York, Maui and San Diego, before being promoted to Resort Manager in Scottsdale. Most recently, he served as opening Resort Manager in Orlando, where he was responsible for day-to-day operations of the 443-room hotel, including its much-lauded restaurants and bars, large spa, and extensive recreational facilities.

Tim Paroulek has been appointed as Executive Chef at Hyatt at The Bellevue

Philadelphia’s iconic Hyatt at The Bellevue, located along the world-famous Avenue of the Arts in the heart of downtown and known for its rich and storied history, is pleased to announce the appointment of Tim Paroulek as Executive Chef. Paroulek has been working for Hyatt Hotels Corporation for over 15 years and brings almost two decades of culinary experience to his new position, most recently overseeing the culinary operation at Grand Hyatt Incheon, the largest Hyatt property outside North America. In his new role, Paroulek will bring a uniquely influenced upscale American cuisine to the luxury hotel and to the city of Philadelphia. As Executive Chef, Paroulek will oversee the entire culinary operation at Hyatt at The Bellevue. Not only will he be involved in managing the property’s fine dining restaurant XIX (Nineteen), known for its sweeping views of Philadelphia from the 19th floor of the hotel, but he will also oversee in-room dining as well as banquet and events menus for the hotel.Tim Paroulek started his culinary career at Northwood’s in Annapolis where he learned basic Italian and French cooking techniques and skills. In 2002 Paroulek joined Hyatt, working at Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay, Resort, Spa and Marina as a line cook. Within two years he was promoted to a supervisory position at the property’s seafood restaurant, Blue Point Provisional Company. Two years later he helped open the prestigious Blue Duck Tavern at Park Hyatt Washington D.C. where he worked his way up to Senior Sous Chef. Paroulek left Blue Duck Tavern to open Shor Restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Curacao Golf Resort Spa & Marina as Chef de Cuisine, as well as manage the property’s existing Mediterranean restaurant Medi. After leaving Curacao Chef Paroulek traveled to South Korea to take on the role of Chef de Cuisine of Restaurant 8 at the Hyatt Regency Incheon where he was eventually promoted to Executive Sous Chef during the opening of a second tower and re-branding of the property to the Grand Hyatt Incheon. Chef Paroulek eventually oversaw the hotel’s entire kitchen operations before taking on his new role at Hyatt at the Bellevue.

Claudine McGee-Bounds has been appointed as General Manager at Courtyard Philadelphia Coatesville/Exton

Waterford Hotel Group has announced the promotion of Claudine McGee-Bounds to General Manager of the 125-room Courtyard by Marriott in Coatesville, PA. Most recently, Nassy was General Manager of Hyatt Regency Rochester, a position he held since 2007. Prior to the Rochester post, Saidian was Executive Assistant Manager at Hyatt Regency Dallas, Hyatt Regency Crown Center Kansas City, Hyatt Regency Cambridge Massachusetts and Hyatt Regency Coral Cables Florida. Nassy's long history at Hyatt includes earlier roles at Hyatt Regency Chicago, Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Park Hyatt Chicago, Hyatt Regency Aruba, Hyatt Boston Harbor and Hyatt Grand Champions Resort and Spa at Indian Wells California.

Olivia C. Brown has been appointed as General Manager at The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia

Brown is now a board member for the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (PCVB), The Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association (GPHA), and the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC). Prior to joining The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia, Brown was the hotel manager at The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead in Atlanta, Ga. and the interim general manager at The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester in White Plains, N.Y. Brown’s experience also includes almost 18 years of experience with the InterContinental Hotels Group, serving in a wide range of positions, from hotel manager to finance manager. Brown holds a degree in hospitality and tourism administration from the Centennial College of Applied Arts and Technology in Toronto, Ontario. She also completed the managerial accounting and finance program at Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto and later earned her CPA. Bob Krol has been appointed as General Manager at The Westin Philadelphia

Krol joined HEI as general manager of the Embassy Suites Philadelphia in 2007 from Interstate Hotels & Resorts, where he served as general manager of the Embassy Suites Philadelphia Airport. Prior to that he was general manager of the Four Points by Sheraton. In addition, he was rooms division manager and director of sales for the Sheraton University City, for Carnival Hotels. Krol went to Fairleigh Dickinson University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He will report to Michael Miner, senior vice president of operations, Region 1.

Andrew Taymans has been promoted to Vice President, Asset and Revenue Management at GF Management

Since its founding in 1988, GF has represented hotel owners, banks and servicing companies on a variety of operational and investment matters. The formation of a dedicated formal asset management division at this time is in response to increased demand for hotel reviews, feasibility studies and ongoing asset management services among those core clients. In order to provide proper leadership and focus to the new division, GF concurrently announced the promotion of Andrew Taymans to vice president, asset and revenue management. Mr. Taymans is a long-term employee of GF, having served as general manager, regional vice president and most recently, vice president of revenue management, during his 30-year career.

Iman P. Butler has been appointed as Director of Sales and Marketing at The Ritz-Carlton

Butler brings more than 15 years of hospitality expertise to the position. Prior to joining The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia team, Butler was the director of sales and marketing at two of the brand’s other properties: The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel in Dana Point, Calif. and The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner in McLean, Va. During his tenure at these properties Butler instituted vast changes to increase hotel productivity and was recognized for numerous awards. Butler’s experience also includes more than seven years with Hilton Hotels Corporation, during which he worked in various sales and marketing roles. Butler earned his Bachelor of Science degree in hotel, restaurant and travel administration from the University of Massachusetts.
