Philip Wong has been appointed as General Manager at Dorsett Regency

With more than 20 years of experience in the tourism and hospitality industry in Singapore and regional countries, Wong was most recently the GM of a platinum 5-star Sovereign Hotel, Zhanjiang in Guangdong, PRC. He held various senior management positions in hotels in Singapore and Asia, including the Starwood Hotels and Resorts, the Ritz Carlton Hotel Company, Shangri-La International Group and Cairnhill Hotels & Resorts. He also worked for Singapore Airlines and DFS. Wong, who has a Master of Business Administration degree from University of Leicester in the UK and diplomas in Management Studies and Hospitality Management, is also a qualified ACTA (Advance Certificate in Training and Assessment) trainer credited with the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA).

Tony Chisholm has been appointed as General Manager at Sofitel So Singapore (opening early 2013)

Sofitel Brisbane Central’s current General Manager Tony Chisholm will relocate to Singapore in June, and is excited to become General Manager of the contemporary ‘boutique hotel’ labelled Sofitel So Singapore. Massimo Moreschini has been appointed as Director of Rooms at Raffles Hotel Singapore

Prior to joining Raffles Hotel, Mr Moreschini served as the Rooms Division Director of Celtic Manor Resort, United Kingdom. The Italian-born national embarked on his career path in the hospitality industry in 1988, and has since garnered many years of invaluable work experience from hotels in the United Kingdom including The Dorchester Hotel and Claridges Hotel, and in Italy. With a strong affinity for service and a passion for generating new ideas, Mr Moreschini will be tasked to develop new strategies to offer the highest level of personalised service for our discerning hotel guests.

Jean Ow-Yeong has been appointed as APAC Media Relations at TripAdvisor

TripAdvisor has announced the appointment of Jean Ow-Yeong as senior media relations Manager for its Asia Pacific business in Singapore. The role is responsible for leading all media relations across the region, including consumer, corporate and trade. “This new role is in response to TripAdvisor’s continuing expansion plans in Asia Pacific,” said Angus Struthers, senior director of global communications for TripAdvisor. “With the appointment of Jean, we hope to drive greater awareness of the TripAdvisor brand in this region and help our members plan and have the perfect trip on any budget.” TripAdvisor operates sites in ten countries/regions including Australia, Singapore and India. Jean joins TripAdvisor from eBay where she was head of public relations for its Southeast Asia business.

Resorts World Sentosa opens two new hotels

On 16 February 2012, Resorts World® Sentosa (RWS) will open the doors to not one but two eco-luxurious hotels - the Equarius Hotel and Beach Villas - at its 49-hectare mega-resort. Paul Rushton has been appointed as Regional Director of MICE Sales Asia Pacific at Marriott International

Marriott International has appointed Paul Rushton as regional director of MICE Sales Asia Pacific. In his new role, Rushton will be responsible for the design and implementation of sales and marketing strategies and growing market share of MICE business for all Marriott branded hotels in Asia Pacific. He is based in Singapore. Rushton was previously director at Marriott International. He has also held management position with the Peninsula Group.

Manfred Weber has been appointed as General Manager at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore

Manfred Weber has been appointed as the new general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore with effect from 19 December 2011. In his new role, Weber is responsible for the success of the hotel’s daily operations and special projects, such as the renovation of the Garden Wing and launch of Singapore’s first CHI, The Spa. Prior to joining Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, Weber spent 11 years in Shanghai and Beijing with luxury hotel companies, including the Ritz Carlton and Peninsula. “As our group expands, new talents are needed to replace general managers who are now promoted to senior levels. Mr. Weber is a natural choice for Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore since he is proficient in managing similar world-class hotels and discerning clientele with proven track record. I am confident that Mr. Weber will continue to uphold our legacy of Shangri-La hospitality from a caring family,” said Michael Cottan, executive vice president of South-East Asia and the Pacific, Shangri-la.

John Pang has been appointed as Executive Assistant Manager at Concorde Hotel Singapore

With over 16 years of experience in the industry, John started his career with the HPL Group as Assistant Outlet Manager at the former Concorde Hotel located at Havelock Road in August 1995. He later held the position of Assistant F&B Manager at the same Hotel before moving to Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya in April 2005 as Assistant Director of F&B. John was subsequently promoted to Director of F&B at Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya.

Olivier Horps has been named Chief Executive Officer of the Greater China Business Unit at Club Med

Olivier Horps has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the new Greater China Business Unit. Olivier joined Club Med in 2007 and has demonstrated his capacity to develop growth in Asia. He was successively appointed Sales and Marketing Director, Asia, and Managing Director, Asia-Pacific. He will relocate to Shanghai to lead Club Med’s development of the Greater China Business Unit.

Heidi Kunkel has been named CEO East & South Asia & Pacific at Club Med

Heidi Kunkel has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer, East & South Asia & Pacific, and will now be based in Singapore. Heidi joined Club Med in 2003, and was most recently President of Japan and Korea and previously held the position of General Manager Pacific. She has promoted strong growth in the Asia Pacific region and also improved business performance in Japan despite a difficult context. Heidi will now develop and grow Club Med’s business further in the East & South Asia & Pacific markets.

John Sartain has been appointed as General Manager at the Mandarin Orchard

John’s appointment comes at a time when the hotel, long regarded in the industry as Singapore’s icon of Asian hospitality, is poised to showcase a series of exciting developments for the Meritus brand. The British national brings with him some 25 years of industry expertise gained through key assignments across Europe and Asia with major hotel companies including Hilton Hotels and Jarvis Hotels. In Singapore where he is also a permanent resident, John was general manager of The Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel from 2007 to 2009. Under his leadership, the hotel received the prestigious Spring Singapore Service Excellence Award 2008, a coveted accolade conferred on organizations that demonstrate the highest standards of world-class business and service excellence. The hotel was also nominated for the top five awards under the Best Hotel Operations category of Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards 2008.

Ian Wilson has been appointed as Regional VP, Asia, and GM of the Fairmont Singapore at Fairmont

The quintessential hotelier, Wilson brings a dynamic mix of experience and industry knowledge to this role and has been instrumental in introducing the Fairmont brand in Asia. Prior to launching the brand’s first hotel in the market, Fairmont Singapore, in late 2007, Wilson served as general manager at the landmark Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, where he successfully positioned the hotel as one of Canada’s top revenue-generating hotels. In addition to providing leadership and guidance to his new team of general mangers, Wilson is also tasked with supporting the brand’s regional development activity, which includes announced Fairmont hotel projects in leading destinations such as Manila, Sanya and Macao.

Tony Cousens has been appointed as Vice President for Hotel Operations at Marina Bay Sands

Mr. Cousens, who joins Marina Bay Sands in March 2009, will be responsible for the 2600-room-and-suite hotel, a hotel team of approximately 2,000 employees, and will oversee the successful launch and smooth running of the hotel operations. With over 30 years of experience in the luxury hospitality industry, Mr. Cousens has spent a significant part of his career in the Asia Pacific region, helping major hospitality brands build and manage their presence in this part of the world. Prior to joining Marina Bay Sands, Mr. Cousens was the senior vice president at Jumeirah, the Dubai-based luxury international hospitality management group, leading its Asia Pacific brand development and operations. Amongst the hotels he has managed, Mr. Cousens’ recent portfolio includes The Marina Mandarin Hotel in Singapore, which is the only Leading Hotels of the World® hotel in Singapore and Le Royal Meridien King Edward Hotel in Toronto, Canada.

Mark Gailey has been appointed as Director of Food and Beverage at The Orchard Hotel Singapore

Mark brings with him over twelve years of experience in the hospitality industry. He held a series of Food and Beverage positions in various international hotels and restaurants, spanning from London to Hong Kong and Singapore. Prior to this appointment, Mark was the Director of Food and Beverage for four years at M Hotel. He will also be looking into developing long-term business strategies for the food and beverage capabilities within the M&C (Millennium & Copthorne) group of hotels in Singapore.
