IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed HUALUXE Taipei in partnership with Fullon Hotels & Resorts, marking the brand’s debut in the Taiwan market and another step forward in bringing HUALUXE Hotels & Resorts to more markets around the world. Expected to open in 2026, the hotel builds on the partners’ successful collaboration on voco Chiayi and IHG’s growing presence in the Taiwan market.

Dennis Laubenstein has been appointed as General Manager at Capella Taipei

Dennis Laubenstein, a Capella veteran with over a decade of experience at Capella Singapore, Capella Tufu Bay, and most recently as the General Manager of Capella Hanoi, now takes on the role of General Manager at Capella Taipei which opens in Q1 2025. Dennis is renowned for curating unique guest experiences inspired by local culture and innovative touchpoints, which led him to establishing Capella Hanoi as a leader in delivering unparallelled luxury experiences in Vietnam. He was instrumental in establishing Capella Hanoi's first Michelin-starred restaurant and positioning the hotel's cocktail bar, The Hudson Rooms, among Asia's 100 Best Bars in 2024. Dennis will continue to champion dining excellence, with plans to elevate Capella Taipei's extraordinary culinary offerings.

Hilton Launches First Hotel Under Tapestry Collection in Asia Pacific: Hotel Resonance Taipei

Hilton (NYSE: HLT) today announced the opening of HOTEL RESONANCE TAIPEI, a 14-story, 175-room modern hotel located at Happy Village of Zhong Zheng District, Taipei. The latest addition to the Tapestry Collection portfolio and the first hotel under the brand to launch in Asia Pacific, Hotel Resonance Taipei is owned by Times Square International Stays Corp, a subsidiary of Prince Housing & Development Corp, under a franchise agreement with Hilton.

Randy Zupanski has been appointed as General Manager at Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei

Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei welcomes newly appointed general manager Randy Zupanski, a 40-year hospitality veteran with vast international exposure and great knowledge of the Asian market. He gained experience from various destinations worldwide including China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Malaysia, Canada and the United States. Mr. Zupanski joins the hotel following his previous post as general manager of the Westin St. Francis, one of the most iconic hotels in San Francisco. Prior to this he was the general manager of the Westin Mission Hills, Palm Springs in California, Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia and Fairmont Pacific Rim, Vancouver in Canada.

David Su has been appointed as Hotel Manager at citizenM Taipei North Gate

David Su, who is from Taiwan, has been appointed as hotel Manager for citizenM Taipei North Gate, the first citizenM hotel in Asia, which is scheduled to open in July 2017. He brings with him extensive experience in the hospitality industry in both the US and Taiwan. Having worked in Hyatt and the Landis Group, David possesses both international perspective and a good understanding of the local Taiwan market. Prior to joining Artyzen Hospitality Group, David managed the Landis Taipei Hotel. The 267-room citizenM Taipei North Gate is centrally located in the CBD adjacent to Airport Express and Taipei Main Station, and only a 5-minute walk from popular Ximending Night Market and a 20-minute walk from Ningxia Night Market.

Calvin Lou has been named General Manager at Aloft Taipei Beitou

The Aloft Taipei Beitou, set to open in January, is pleased to announce Calvin Lou as General Manager of the city’s most tech-forward and innovative hotel. With a career spanning more than a decade in and around Taipei, Mr. Lou is uniquely positioned to elevate the innovative Aloft brand and ensure an optimal guest experience. Set to debut in January 2017, the Aloft Taipei Beitou is the city’s newest, hippest hotspot with 292 rooms conveniently located just steps from the district’s famous hot springs and two MRT stations that can whisk guests to Taipei’s downtown area and attractions. Mr. Lou arrived at Aloft Taipei Beitou recently as the General Manager for the anticipated opening. The Taiwanese native – who used to serve as butler to the world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma – utilized his leadership skills and valuable operational experience to lead the opening team, setting up the systems for every aspect of the hotel operations, from food and beverage to service standards. Mr. Lou joined the Starwood Family in 2014 as the hotel manager for the Four Points Sheraton Taipei Zhonghe. Prior to this, he was Director of Rooms at the RSL Cold & Hot Springs Resort Suao, where he helped the resort garner prestigious service awards for three consecutive years from the SGS Group and Global View magazine. Prior to this, he was a Director at Villa 32, the upscale hot springs hotel in Beitou.

Melvin Yang has been appointed as General Manager at Regent Taipei

FIH Regent Hotels Group officially announced the young and accomplished Mr. Melvin Yang, former Silks Place Taiwan Area GM, as the General Manager for the hotel group’s flagship property, The Regent Taipei. With nearly two decades of hotel management experience, Mr. Yang will beinstrumental in imbuing the brand with even more vigor, detail-oriented service and innovation.Originally from Hsinchu, Mr. Yang spent time living in Australia, where he studied Hotel Management. At age 38, he is outgoing, optimistic and proactive. Although relatively young, he possesses diverse skills and extensive hotel management experience. Mr. Yang’s career began with entry level service work, where hedeveloped his passion for the service industry. After joining Regent Taipei as a function dining sales in 2002, he rose through the ranks from Assistant Manager to Manager and then to Director of Regent’s Outside Dining. With years of F&B and sales experience, he built great results for Regent’s Outside Dining. Hisdemonstrable management and business development abilities earned him the position of Silks Place Taroko EAM in 2011 and in quick succession, Silks Place Taroko GM in 2012. Once again, he was able to significantly elevate Silks Place Taroko’s brand image and sales results. In 2014, he was named Silks Place Taiwan Area GM, where he oversaw all of Silks Place hotels’ management and operation; Mr. Yang was also Regent Beijing’s Hotel Manager in 2015.

Harvey J. Thompson has been appointed as General Manager at W Taipei

Harvey John Thompson has been named the new General Manager of W Taipei. With more than 30 years of experience and knowledge in the hospitality industry, Thompson is responsible for all areas in the hotel including future development of associates, product improvement, and financial performance, peril of financial performance, brand compliance and guest satisfaction.Born in Sydney, Australia, Thompson’s career milestones include working in various reputable hotel chains in Fiji, France, Hong Kong and Malaysia. His first taste in the hospitality industry began at the tender age of 19, when he was Trainee Manager in Bronte Inn, Australia, an 80-room Boutique Hotel in Sydney. Thompson was exposed in different areas and quickly learnt the ropes of the hotel’s daily operations including rooms, kitchen and food and beverage.

Sammy Carolus has been appointed as General Manager at Grand Hyatt Taipei

Grand Hyatt Taipei has tapped a veteran of the hospitality industry in Asia, Sammy Carolus, to lead the property and its 1,000 staff as general manager. Carolus previously was general manager of Thailand’s Hyatt Regency Hua Hin. Carolus relocates to Taipei with more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry. He started as a sales executive with Hyatt Bali in his home country of Indonesia in 1992 and later served as associate director of business development and director of business development at Grand Hyatt Bali. In 2003, he became director of marketing for Hyatt Regency Hua Hin. A year later, he was transferred to Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, where he helped launch several first-of-its-kind initiatives in the region, including the first residential-style event facility in the Asia Pacific region and Bangkok’s first residential spa. He was promoted to executive assistant manager of sales and marketing at Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok in 2009. Carolus took on his first general manager role in 2010, when he was selected to lead Hyatt Regency Hua Hin in the Gulf of Thailand.
