Mr Federer comes to Bermuda from The Ritz-Carlton, Moscow, where he has been general manager of the 334-room hotel since 2012. The hotel is now Russia’s and Ritz-Carlton’s leading hotel operation.
Orient-Express Hotels Ltd. (NYSE; OEH, www.orient-express.com) (the “Company”) today announced that its Board of Directors has nominated Roland Hernandez, 55, as an independent member of the Board. Mr. Hernandez is a highly successful media and entertainment executive with broad public company board experience including in the hospitality industry, where he has served as the lead director of MGM Resorts International and Vail Resorts, Inc. The Company also announced that Chairman J. Robert Lovejoy and Board member Philip R. Mengel will retire from the Board upon the expiration of their terms at the Company’s Annual General Meeting on June 28, 2013. Immediately following his election to the Board at the AGM, the Board intends to name Mr. Hernandez Chairman.
Mr Shapard, who has 14 years of hospitality experience in the Americas and Asia, joins the hotel from Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong where he has been Hotel Manager since 2010. Mr Shapard began his career with Mandarin Oriental in 2005 as Hotel Manager of the Group’s flagship property in the Americas, Mandarin Oriental, New York.
Fairmont is pleased to announce several recent management and supervisory-level appointments at its properties worldwide. Leonard S. Czarnecki moves into the role of general manager, The Fairmont Hamilton Princess, Bermuda. Czarnecki joins this Bermuda icon from the Fairmont Pittsburgh, where he was acting general manager.

The luxury hospitality market is feeling the full impact of the global economic downturn in more ways than one, as companies cut back on lavish trips to top hotels and resorts in offshore destinations. But it is less to do with the money needed to finance the excursion and more about the public's perception of how it is being spent that is putting firms off visiting the likes of Bermuda.
