Sebastien Carre has been appointed as General Manager at Four Seasons Hotel Westcliff

Four Seasons veteran Sebastien Carre has been appointed General Manager and will assume the position August 1, 2013 to begin preparations to re-open the property as Four Seasons Hotel Westcliff Johannesburg. A native of Lyon, France, Carre's ten-year career with Four Seasons began in Washington, where he was Hotel Manager, and in 2006 he was appointed opening General Manager for Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora. His most recent position, as General Manager at the company's Red Sea resort at Sharm El Sheikh, was his second tour of duty in Africa, having previously worked at a resort in Mauritius.

Hilton Worldwide today announced the official opening of the first DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in South Africa - the 183-room DoubleTree by Hilton Cape Town - Upper Eastside. Owned and operated by Upper Eastside Hotel (Pty) Ltd under a franchise license agreement, the newly renovated, upscale full-service property is located in Cape Town’s upcoming district of Woodstock, a dynamic area which is home to an abundance of fashionable art galleries, boutiques, music bars and trendy restaurants.

South Africa Situation Report

International tourist arrivals in South Africa are estimated to have increased by approximately 10.5% in the first seven months of the year (Overseas: +16.4%; Africa: +8.5%). Domestic tourism is estimated to account for about 70% of the total visitor market and about 35% of total tourism spend. Yet in spite of a weaker domestic economic outlook and moderating domestic visitor market, the South African hotel market has shown some evidence of a recovery in 2012.

Hilton Worldwide Launches DoubleTree by Hilton Brand in South Africa

Hilton Worldwide today announced the signing of a new DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Cape Town, South Africa, with local operator Upper Eastside Hotel (Pty) Ltd. The hotel will be Hilton Worldwide's fifth property in South Africa and its second in the 'Mother City' of Cape Town.

The Grayston is located in the heart of Sandton, Johannesburg's financial district near the Stock Exchange. Protea to open 11 new hotels in Africa | bizcommunity.com

The Protea Hospitality Group says it's forging ahead with expansion plans in Africa this year, with the first Protea Hotel soon to be built in a yet-to-be-disclosed location and 10 other properties in the pipeline for Nigeria, Uganda and Zambia. The total value of this investment by Protea Hotels and its property owner partners is R1 billion. This will bring to nine the number of African countries in which Protea Hotels is represented and the company is expected to make a separate announcement soon in this regard.

During this period, IHG signed 15 hotels including five in St Petersburg, and the largest Holiday Inn hotel in the world, with 1,000 rooms, due to open in 2014 in the Crocus City development in Moscow. Cooper originally joined IHG in 1998.
