Meliá Hotels International announces Gran Melia Palacio de los Duques, Madrid

Meliá Hotels International has refocused its sights on Madrid with a major investment that will provide a stimulus to the luxury hotel market and the competitiveness of the hotel industry in the city. The company led by Gabriel Escarrer now has 23 hotels in the city and is working on the comprehensive renovation of the old Ambassador Hotel, a prominent feature on the Madrid-Velázquez walking tour, which will open in 2016 as the new five-star Gran Melia Palacio de los Duques, already a member of the exclusive "Leading Hotels of the World" list.

Rezidor has appointed Gianleo Bosticco as Senior Director Business Development Southern Europe. Based in Barcelona, he is responsible for Rezidor’s growth projects in Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece, and reports directly to Romain Avril, Vice President Business Development at the group’s head office in Brussels. Gianleo joins Rezidor from Meliá Hotels International in Palma de Mallorca where he was Development Director for France, Italy, Turkey and Southern Europe.

The new Christie + Co report, "The Keys to the Spanish Hotel Market Recovery," indicates that Spain's "remarkable resurgence of hotel investment" will continue on through 2016, at least. Spain has seen record-breaking levels of inbound tourism in 2015 (so far), following four years of consistent growth. More than 38 million foreign tourists visited the country in the first seven months of the year, 4.7 percent more than during the same period in 2014.

Meliá Hacienda del Conde

Melia Hotels International, the leading hotel company in Spain, has announced the addition to its portfolio of a luxury resort in a prime location along the cliffs of Teno in the northwest of Tenerife. The resort is surrounded by the 18-hole Buenavista golf course designed by the legendary Severiano Ballesteros. The hotel has been renamed Meliá Hacienda del Conde and will be adapted to the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand standards.

Whitebridge Hospitality is pleased to issue its latest research in the form of a quick overview of Barcelona's hotel sector, based on a recent highest-and-best-use study undertaken in the city. Hotel Performance Trends: Generally speaking, the growth in supply has been matched by growth in demand since 1990 and occupancy has been relatively stable over the period. Indeed since 2010, room occupancy has barely fluctuated from an average of circa 77% per annum. Although increased supply is being absorbed successfully and occupancies are stable, the effects of such dramatic increases in supply are being felt in terms of ADR, which has only increased in small increments. Graph below shows the variance between different hotel grades in terms of occupancy and ADR in 2013 and 2014.
