Amanda Elder has been named vice president, sales & marketing, Europe at FRHI Hotels & Resorts

FRHI Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce the appointment of Amanda Elder as vice president, sales & marketing, Europe. Based in Zurich, Elder will lead the sales and marketing function for FRHI’s activity in Europe. Elder brings more than 25 successful years of experience to her new position, covering all aspects of luxury hotel sales, marketing and operations and has held different levels of leadership roles in Australia, Asia and Europe. Elder joins FRHI from Kempinski China, where she was the vice president sales & marketing in charge of the Chinese market.

A 10/10 finish to the Young Hoteliers Summit Challenge provided by Dorchester Collection

The final day of the Young Hoteliers Summit commenced on Wednesday 18th March, by welcoming Fritz Dickamp (AEHL 2013 and YHS MC 2012) to the stage for a live stream with Mr. Steve Salom (General Manager Western Switzerland, UBER) on the topic of "Hospitality in the Sharing Economy". Via facebook, delegates were able to pose questions covering the growth and evolution of Uber and the brand's identity, the impact of the negative and positive publicity they have received, their recent partnerships and who they consider competition – hint: not taxis.

Jean-Yves Blatt has been appointed as General Manager at The Chedi Andermatt

A little more than a year after The Chedi Andermatt’s remarkable debut, the hotel’s management company, GHM, has named a permanent replacement to the pre-opening / launch general manager. Jean-Yves Blatt assumes charge of the acclaimed 101-room hotel today, March 4, succeeding the property’s first GM, Alain Bachmann, who relocated in July to Indonesia where he now leads another GHM property, The Chedi Club Tanah Gajah Ubud in Bali.

Hotel investment in the Swiss Alps: reinventing a long-standing tradition

A new law in Switzerland caps the number of second homes allowed in – for example – ski resorts, where for years, many chalets and apartments have only been occupied for a few weeks a year. When first passed, this law resulted in a reluctance to invest in any new building projects. However, as KPMG’s Andreas Roman writes, serviced residences won’t be counted in the quota, so an opportunity exists for the hotel industry to develop properties around this concept.
