Queen Elizabeth 2 to become floating hotel in Dubai | ameinfo.com

After three years sitting idle in Dubai's Port Rashid, the Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise liner is to be converted into a 300-room luxury hotel. The 70,327-ton, 1,791-passenger vessel was bought from Cunard for $100m five years ago by Istithmar, an investment company owned by the government of Dubai. Istithmar initially planned to refurbish the QE2 and showcase it as the main attraction in a maritime-themed development on Palm Jumeirah, but the plan was shelved in the wake of the financial crisis.

JS Anand has been appointed as General Manager at Holiday Inn Dubai - Al Barsha

Joining the Holiday Inn Dubai – Al Barsha as new General Manager is JS Anand, a seasoned hotelier who moves to the UAE from Canada where he was most recently General Manager with one of the Marriott brands in Toronto, a post he has held since June 2010. Claudia Klingbeil has been appointed as marketing and communications manager at Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City

German national Klingbeil started her hospitality career in Australia, before moving to Dubai to pursue PR and marketing. Galoisy said: “Having spent the last two years in Abu Dhabi as marketing manager for a hospitality, leisure and events institution, as well as working in Sharjah and Dubai in the tourism sector, Claudia’s market knowledge and extensive experience in the B2B marketing field will contribute nicely to the hotel’s already strong market presence.”

Abu Karaki joins the hotel with eight years of experience in the hospitality industry, starting his career in his home country of Jordan in the guest service department of a five-star property. He moved to the UAE in 2007 as a senior sales manager in Abu Dhabi, from which he moves. François Galoisy, general manager, said: “We are pleased to welcome Mohammed to our team and are confident that his knowledge and experience will strengthen our Sales team and bring new ideas and concepts on how to sell our facilities to our clients.”
