Steve Magnuson has been appointed as Managing Director at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa and Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark

Magnuson began his career with Marcus Hotels & Resorts in 1994 as general manager of the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa. In 1998 he was promoted to area vice president where he was instrumental in launching Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark and Orange Lake Vacation Club in Lake Geneva, Wis. In 2014 he joined Kalahari Resorts as vice president and managing director to successfully open one of America’s largest waterparks in Pocono Mountains, Penn.

Scott Krause has been named Innkeeper of the Year at Wisconsin Hotel & Lodging Association

The Wisconsin Hotel & Lodging Association (WH&LA), representing more than 650 hotels, motels, resorts and inns throughout the state, named Heidel House Resort & Spa General Manager Scott Krause as the 2014 Innkeeper of the Year at the Wisconsin Lodging Conference held in early November. Krause was recognized for his outstanding leadership in the Wisconsin lodging industry, serving as the general manager of Heidel House Resort & Spa for 11 years. He also currently serves on the Governor’s Council on Tourism as one of three delegates representing the lodging industry and was the first recipient of the Governor’s Tourism Service Award. Krause has also served as WH&LA Chairman of the Board in 2008, Wisconsin Representative on the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) Board of Directors and was accepted onto the prestigious AH&LA Resort Committee. Krause received special commendations from Governor Scott Walker for his service to the lodging industry.

Maureen DeValkenaere has been promoted to Director of Sales at Milwaukee Marriott West

Sean Castady has been appointed as General Manager at The Charmant Hotel

Aparium Hotel Group, a leading hotel company specializing in management and development of independent properties across the U.S., announces the appointment of Sean Castady as General Manager for The Charmant Hotel, a boutique and historically relevant hotel in La Crosse, WI. In his role, Castady will direct and oversee all daily operations of the former Chocolate Factory turned 67-room hotel, scheduled to open in the Summer of 2015 Originally from St. Joseph, Michigan, Castady began his hospitality career in Naples, Florida with Hyatt Hotels. A cross country move landed Sean at the London West Hollywood prior to joining Joie De Vivre Hospitality in 2009.

Jim Waldvogel has been appointed as General Manager at Hilton Milwaukee City Center

Jim Waldvogel will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Hilton Milwaukee City Center and will have operational oversight of the company’s two other Milwaukee properties, The Pfister Hotel and InterContinental Milwaukee. He will also continue to oversee the company’s two Minneapolis properties, the Hilton Minneapolis/Bloomington and the Crowne Plaza-Northstar. Promoted to area vice president in April 2014, Waldvogel joined the company in 1997 as general manager of the Crowne Plaza-Northstar hotel and was promoted to general manager of the Hilton Minneapolis/Bloomington in 2007. Waldvogel graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis.

Tim Smith has been appointed as General Manager at The Pfister Hotel

Tim Smith, a nearly 30-year veteran of The Marcus Corporation, will oversee operations of the company’s flagship property, The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wis. Smith joined the company in 1987 as an account executive at the Marc Plaza (now Hilton Milwaukee) and held various sales positions within the company. In 2005 he was named corporate director of sales and in 2007 he was promoted to his most recent position as general manager of InterContinental Milwaukee. Smith graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire.

Omar Naimi has been appointed as General Manager at InterContinental Milwaukee

Omar Naimi is the new general manager of the InterContinental Milwaukee. Naimi joined the company in 2011 as director of hotel operations and interim general manager of The Pfister Hotel. Prior to joining Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Naimi served as general manager of the Tanjung Rhu Resort and Spa in Langkawi, Malaysia. Prior to this role, Naimi spent 12 years with Marriott Hotels & Resorts working in operations and food and beverage positions at some of Marriott’s most luxurious properties. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in hotel administration from Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, N.H. and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Stockholm School of Economics in Stockholm, Sweden. He also holds a hotel diploma from the Hotel Institute Montreux in Montreux, Switzerland.

Skip Harless has been named General Manager at Hilton Madison Monona Terrace

Skip Harless has been named general manager of the Hilton Madison Monona Terrace. With more than 24 years of experience with Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, Harless joined the company in May 2014 as resident manager of the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa. Prior to joining Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Harless served as the senior executive assistant manager for the Hyatt Regency Denver in Denver, Colo. He graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

Kevin Karau has been appointed as General Manager at Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced that Kevin Karau has been appointed general manager of Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark in Lake Geneva, Wis. In his new role, Karau will oversee the operations of the only all-suite destination of its kind in the Midwest offering year-round family-fun featuring Moose Mountain Falls, the 50,000 square-foot indoor/outdoor waterpark, 225 suites, meeting spaces and family barbeque restaurant.

Nicholas Johnson has been appointed as General Manager at Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Milwaukee

Rosemont, Ill.-based First Hospitality Group, Inc., (FHG) announced today the hiring of Nicholas Johnson as the general manager of the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Milwaukee. Johnson, a six year hospitality industry veteran, most recently served as the GM at the Ironworks Hotel in Beloit, Wisconsin, where he gained industry experience in hotel renovations, pre-opening, revenue management, operations management and leadership initiatives. The 129-room Hampton Inn is conveniently located next to Indiana University and Memorial Stadium, just a mile from downtown Bloomington.

Eric Grimm has been appointed as General Manager at Mason Street Grill at The Pfister Hotel

Grimm joins Marcus Hotels & Resorts with an extensive background in food and beverage, most recently serving as assistant general manager of Coopers Hawk Winery and Restaurant in Brookfield, Wis. In this role he was responsible for all front-of-restaurant operations and day-to-day management. Previously, he worked at T & J Hospitality Group in Tomah, Wis., where he was responsible for overseeing the food and beverage operations for Three Bears Lodge and the opening of two independent pizzerias, where he doubled sales in a 12-month period. Grimm has also served in management positions at Stir Crazy Fresh Asian Grill, Ruby Tuesday Restaurant and Papa Murphy’s Pizza.

Tom Mason has been appointed as Managing Director at the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa

Mason joins Marcus Hotels & Resorts with over 30 years of hospitality experience. He began his career with Hyatt Hotels Corporation in 1981. His career includes serving as general manager of the Hyatt Regency Knoxville in Knoxville, Tenn., and the Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Whitney and Radisson Plaza Hotel, all located in Minneapolis, Minn. He also served as asset manager of the Turnstone Group and most recently served as vice president of operations for The Service Company, a national provider of comprehensive hotel and casino cleaning services. Mason has been recognized as General Manager of the Year by Radisson Hotels. He is a graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in business.

Ron Olstad has been appointed as General Manager at Hyatt Regency Milwaukee

Thomas F. Kissinger has been promoted to Senior Executive Vice President at The Marcus Corporation

The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS) today announced the promotion of Thomas F. Kissinger, 53, to senior executive vice president of The Marcus Corporation. In addition, the company announced the promotions of Steven S. Bartelt to director of legal affairs and Mary Beth Castino to director of risk management. Kissinger will continue to serve as The Marcus Corporation’s general counsel and secretary, and will assume added responsibilities for the human resources and corporate real estate departments. He will also work with the company’s two divisions on strategic planning.

Michael Carsch has been named Managing Director at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa

Carsch joins Marcus Hotels & Resorts after a 20-year career with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and most recently with Thompson Hotels. While at Thompson, he served as general manager of the Sax Chicago, Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and Thompson Beverly Hills. Prior to that Carsch was president of the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nev. Before joining Thompson Hotels, Carsch held numerous general manager positions with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company including The Ritz-Carlton, Key Biscayne, Miami, Fla.; The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner, McLean, Va. and The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, Fla.Carsch graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He has actively participated in many industry organizations including statewide hotel and lodging associations, chambers of commerce and tourism committees throughout the U.S.

Paul Ohm has been named General Manager at The Pfister® Hotel

Ohm has more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry and previously served as general manager of the Fairmont Newport Beach, a 450-room luxury hotel in southern California.
