Leonardo Hotels Takes Over Two Hotels in the Hannover Medical Park

On 1 July, Leonardo Hotels acquired two existing hotels from Essendi, one of Europe's leading hotel investors and operators. An extensive rebranding process will now take place to combine both into the new Leonardo Hannover Medical Park. This step will enable Leonardo Hotels to establish a third presence in Hanover and to expand its position on the regional hotel and conferencing market.

Thanks to its location at the heart of the Hannover Medical Park, a dynamic centre of economic activity, research and healthcare, the Leonardo Hannover Medical Park will offer the ideal setting for business travellers, events guests and international visitors alike.

The sale of these two hotels represents a continuation of Essendi's overarching portfolio strategy, which is to place an ever greater focus on selected core markets and on high-performing assets. The aims are to increase efficiency, to reinforce the present portfolio and to use asset management as a vehicle to achieve sustainable value growth at an overall level in line with the group's long-term investment strategy.

The newly created Leonardo Hannover Medical Park will house a total of 208 rooms. These will be made up of 112 rooms from the former Mercure Hotel and a further 96 from the ibis Hotel. The part of the hotel based on the Mercure will reopen as early as 1 July 2025. The rest is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2025. The former ibis Hotel will undergo temporary closure after the takeover so that it can be comprehensively modernised and brought up to the Leonardo Hotels quality standard. Andreas Neudahm, who has taken on responsibility for the design of many Leonardo Hotels, will take charge of the works.

The Leonardo Hannover Medical Park will offer its guests stylishly furnished rooms and an up-to-date infrastructure. Future facilities will include restaurants, bars, an elegant lounge with a corner billiards area, an attractive terrace complete with an outdoor pool and a well equipped gym.

The new location will also be an ideal option for business travellers and events planners. The conference area will encompass seven function rooms which are capable of flexible use and extend over a total of 381 square metres. The largest of these will accommodate up to 140 persons and will be excellently suited to conferences, training sessions and a wide variety of other events. Leonardo will shortly boast three hotels and almost 30 conference rooms across the city and is thus set to become a major player on the local MICE market.
