Hotel Tivoli Coimbra

Tivoli Coimbra Reopens in April 2026 with a Five-star Rating after a Complete Renovation

After a full renovation, Tivoli Coimbra will reopen in April 2026 with a five-star rating, offering a sophisticated atmosphere, personalized services, and a renewed Tivoli experience in a prime central city location.

Situated along the Mondego River, which originates in the Serra da Estrela mountain range and flows east-west, Coimbra lies between Lisbon and Porto. It is one of Portugal's oldest cities, renowned for its strong cultural and educational identity. The city is historically recognized as a university town, home to the University of Coimbra—one of Europe's oldest and Portugal's largest universities. Founded in 1290 by King D. Dinis, the university was initially established in Lisbon, alternating between the two cities until finally settling on the banks of the Mondego River in Coimbra in 1537.

In more recent history, the student population of the University of Coimbra played a pivotal role in defending freedom and democracy, actively opposing the Estado Novo dictatorship.

Beyond its academic significance, Coimbra was also the capital of the Kingdom of Portugal until 1255, when Lisbon assumed that role. The city houses the Monastery of Santa Cruz, where D. Afonso Henriques, Portugal's first king, is buried. The monastery also served as the country's first National Pantheon.

The Tivoli Coimbra renovation will introduce new features throughout the property, from guest rooms to the façade, including the entrance lobby, breakfast restaurant, Simone Urban Bar & Kitchen, and new wellness facilities, highlighted by a new indoor pool.

Designed by Coimbra Jardim, the hotel's owner, in collaboration with architecture firm A3 Arquitetos and interior design by Broadway Malyan, the project transforms one of Coimbra's most iconic hotels into a welcoming haven of renewed glamour and sophistication.

Making its debut as a five-star property, Tivoli Coimbra will elevate the city's hospitality offering. All 100 rooms and suites have been fully renovated, featuring modern layouts, premium finishes, elegant furnishings, and cutting-edge technology. The number of suites will increase from four to 14, offering exclusive options for the most discerning guests. A highlight is the Double Terrace Suite, complete with a private deck and pool, providing a unique experience in Coimbra.

Public areas will feature contemporary design, with a sophisticated bar and two dining areas spread across the ground and first floors, connected by an impressive staircase. The new wellness area includes an indoor pool, gym, treatment rooms, jacuzzi, sauna, and Turkish bath. Event and meeting rooms have also been fully renovated to provide modern and functional spaces.

Tivoli Coimbra's central location provides easy access to the city's main attractions, monuments, and shopping areas, making it ideal for both leisure and business travelers.

Room rates start at €180 for a Superior room, including breakfast for two, with reservations opening on 1st April 2026. For more information, visit https://www.tivolihotels.com/pt/tivoli-coimbra.
