Newport's Hotel Viking Set for May Reopening Following Multimillion-Dollar Renovation

Hotel Viking, one of New England’s most storied hospitality landmarks, is now accepting reservations ahead of its highly anticipated reopening in May 2026. Perched above the city at One Bellevue Avenue, the legendary 1926 property is entering a new era following a comprehensive makeover timed to its centennial year. The refreshed hotel will continue to define itself as Newport’s cultural living room, masterfully weaving timeless elegance with a renewed sense of community connection.

A Storied Landmark Reimagined

Originally built by Newport’s founding families as a gathering place for culture and conversation, Hotel Viking features 208 guest rooms and suites, blending historic character and modern comfort with layered textures, custom furnishings, and residential style interiors. The comprehensive renovation, led by KHP Capital Partners in collaboration with Pivot, the lifestyle division of Davidson Hospitality Group, and interior design firm Beleco, preserves many of the hotel’s original architectural details while introducing updated interiors throughout the property. Historic elements remain part of the guest experience, including the front desk, which will feature the property’s original 1926 room key cabinet, exemplifying Hotel Viking’s commitment to its past while ushering in a new chapter for the next generation.

Defining Culinary Excellence

Central to Hotel Viking’s reintroduction to Newport is a brand new culinary program led by acclaimed Rhode Island native and two time James Beard Award nominee for Best Chef in the Northeast, Chef Robert Andreozzi, in collaboration with beverage leader Jesse Hedberg, a current nominee for Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service. The program introduces four distinct concepts designed to shape the hotel’s next century.

Pescadou, the hotel’s signature restaurant, draws inspiration from the French Riviera, blending Mediterranean traditions with the seafood and produce of the Ocean State’s farms and fisheries. Inspired by Newport’s sailing culture, Cap Club captures the city’s golden hour with panoramic views, serving rum forward cocktails and coastal, island inspired dishes. Skoal Room returns as the hotel’s historic cocktail bar, honoring the tradition of the grand hotel lounge while introducing a martini focused program built on classic technique. Tuck Shop rounds out the culinary offerings as a café and market serving pastries, coffee, and grab and go fare daily.

Lifestyle and Wellness

Hotel Viking’s recently renovated Spa Fjör offers a restorative retreat dedicated to the well-being of mind, body, and soul. Highly personalized treatments draw global inspiration from Balinese traditions and Thai body rituals to replace the weight of the world with the feeling of utter relaxation. A curated menu of services includes both individual and couples’ treatments, and amenities include a fitness center, indoor pool, cabana spaces, infrared sauna and a Himalayan sea salt wall.

Beyond the spa, Hotel Viking places guests at the center of Newport’s historic Bellevue Avenue district, within easy walking distance of the harbor, International Tennis Hall of Fame, Cliff Walk, and the city’s famed Gilded Age mansions.

Weddings and Events

Hotel Viking offers a collection of distinctive venues designed to host with character. With more than 13,000 square feet of flexible event space including elegant ballrooms and open-air settings, the hotel is fully equipped to accommodate a range of occasions. Signature venues include the Viking Ballroom, hosting up to 400 guests, and the Bellevue Ballroom, as well as two conference rooms designed with business meetings and smaller gatherings in mind.

Kay Chapel, a beautifully restored chapel dating back to 1859, is central to Hotel Viking’s history and the heart of the hotel's events program. Seating up to 200 guests, it has served Rhode Island as a timeless backdrop for weddings, cultural and community events for over 150 years. Today, Kay Chapel continues to play a central role in the surrounding community as a quintessentially Newport celebration space.

As Hotel Viking prepares to welcome guests back in its historic centennial year, this next chapter is rooted in the hotel’s connection to Newport and the community that shapes it. The hotel will collaborate with local artists, designers, and craftspeople to ensure that every detail reflects the city’s creative spirit. More than a renovation, this transformation represents a restoration of purpose, reintroducing Hotel Viking as Newport’s cultural living room and inviting the next generation of guests to create new memories at One Bellevue Avenue.
