Hapimag Resort Westerland Aalborg Welcomes Guests Back Following Extensive Renovation

Hapimag AG, a leading provider of holiday apartments across Europe, has made one of its most popular properties on Sylt fit for the future. After around one and a half years of construction, the Westerland Aalborg resort presents itself as a modern retreat that masterfully combines tradition with contemporary style. Since 11 June 2026, the property, located in immediate proximity to the beach promenade and Brandenburger Strand, has been combining ecological efficiency with barrier-free comfort.

During the renovation, the Zug-based tourism company focused on bringing Sylt’s natural character into the architectural concept while also improving the building’s energy efficiency. In doing so, they consistently relied on the expertise of regional construction partners. The result is a highly sought-after destination that sets new standards for holidays on Germany's northernmost island as a "home away from home".

Interior Design: Inspired by Dunes, Heather, and Amber

The new concept directly draws upon the island’s unique atmosphere, bringing the natural beauty indoors. A variety of materials, colours, and structures create a harmonious interplay: gentle textures reminiscent of tracks in the fine sand meet a colour palette of delicate heather nuances and warm amber tones. High-quality materials, natural textures, and a sophisticated lighting concept create an atmosphere of relaxation and space – a place to breathe deeply and find peace.

All 45 holiday apartments have been completely refurnished and designed to create a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The accommodation options have also been expanded and made more flexible: alongside the proven layouts, the resort now offers a total of four newly conceived 3-room apartments, which are ideally tailored to the needs of families. The modernised bathrooms and the kitchens, equipped with energy-efficient appliances, combine functionality and comfort. Special attention was also paid to inclusion: through targeted structural adjustments, the resort is now even more accessible and comfortable for guests with reduced mobility.

Sustainability and Accessibility as a Foundation

The new aesthetic is based on a consistently sustainable strategy. A central component of the comfort and inclusion concept is the installation of a second lift, which ensures seamless accessibility throughout the entire building and optimises internal workflows for both guests and staff. Furthermore, the building's energy systems have been completely modernised. An innovative hybrid energy solution – consisting of a heat pump, a photovoltaic system, and a gas boiler – will ensure a significant reduction in carbon emissions in the future; the new heat pump alone saves around 31.5 tonnes of CO2 annually.

Strong Partners: Competence and Local Expertise from the Region

For the execution of this major project, Hapimag relied on a strong network of regional partners who are intimately familiar with the architectural challenges of the coast. The Sylt-based architectural firm Schlums & Franzen from Westerland was responsible for the structural implementation and on-site architectural management. The creative overall concept for the interior design was penned by the Hamburg-based agency cm-Design. The demanding building services planning and energetic modernisation were designed by PUJ Ingenieure (Hörnum/Hamburg), while GDP Ingenieure were responsible for the specialist planning of the future-oriented electrical engineering.
