voco The Franklin New York by IHG, an upscale urban retreat located within Manhattan's prestigious Upper East Side, has unveiled a renovation that enhances the property's intimate character while preserving the historic charm that has made the building a longstanding neighborhood fixture. The revamp transformed each of the hotel's 49 guestrooms, along with the lobby and public spaces, creating an elevated guest experience that balances New York’s classic character with contemporary comfort.
The redesign celebrates the 1929 brownstone’s nearly century-old heritage through a refined, vintage New York aesthetic, complemented by highly personalized service that creates the feeling of arriving at a private Upper East Side residence rather than a traditional hotel.
The newly enhanced guestrooms, designed by award-winning architect and interior design firm Glen & Co Architecture, feature a sophisticated palette of dramatic midnight-blue walls, crisp white millwork, and soaring ceilings, creating an inviting guest experience that feels refined, elevated and unmistakably New York. The addition of bespoke furnishings introduces warm wood finishes, tailored upholstery, and brushed brass accents reminiscent of an Upper East Side apartment. Modern light fixtures create a feel of subtle luxury, while elegant crystal chandeliers add a subtle touch of old-world glamour and reflect the understated sophistication of the surrounding neighborhood.
The public spaces were conceived as gracious living rooms where guests can relax, read, gather, or simply watch the neighborhood unfold beyond the windows. Soft lighting, residential millwork, natural stone, warm woods, and carefully composed seating arrangements create an atmosphere that feels collected over time rather than conventionally designed. Rich emerald-green walls, amber drapery, tufted leather sofas, and curated black-and-white photography celebrating New York's iconic cityscape adorn the newly reimagined lobby. Finally, The Patio extends the residential feel outdoors, offering a distinctive setting for private events, intimate gatherings, and curated guest experiences.
