Mark Sherburne has been appointed as General Manager at The Carolina Inn

Destination Hotels & Resorts (DHR) announced that Mark Sherburne has been appointed to General Manager at The Carolina Inn. Sherburne spent almost two decades in the local hotel industry, most recently as General Manager at aloft Chapel Hill, and officially starts on November 11. Sherburne successfully opened two new hotels in his most recent GM roles at aloft Chapel Hill (July 2010-October 2013) and Four Points by Sheraton RDU (June 2009-July 2010). He also helped the properties garner an array of accolades: 2011 Hotel of the Year (No. 2 in 2012) by Starwood Hotels & Resorts for all aloft Hotels in North America; 2011 New Hotel of the Year by Interstate Hotels Crossroads Division; 2011/12/13 Certificate of Excellence by Trip Advisor; and Top 10 percent of all Starwood North American Four Points properties. Sherburne helped create and launch a new hotel development unit as Vice President of Hotel Operations and Project Development for East West Partners Club & Lodging Management in Chapel Hill from April 2006-March 2009. In the process, he served as Acting GM of the University Inn Chapel Hill and managed its shutdown prior to a September 2007 demolition to make way for the East 54 mixed-use development that included the aloft Chapel Hill hotel.
