Charlie Dang has been appointed as Regional Vice President Southeast Asia at Starwood Hotels & Resorts

As Regional Vice President, Dang will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans for the company’s growth and development across countries in Southeast Asia which includes Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. He will also oversee the operations and financial performance of Starwood hotels in the region as well as further build relationships with key stakeholders. Prior to this appointment, Dang served as Vice President of Operations for Greater China. In this position, he played an instrumental role in managing the growing footprint of the Greater China region. Dang led the team through strategic counsel and by ensuring successful openings of new hotels in Greater China, the region where Starwood has more than doubled the footprint in the past four years. He also led the localization and implementation of global programs in Greater China such as the roll out of Starwood Preferred Guest® (SPG®) Keyless check-in. Additionally, Dang also assisted in developing Starwood Personalized Travel for Chinese travelers that is now implemented at Starwood properties in major cities around the world. Dang is an excellent example of Starwood’s commitment in cultivating talent and internal career advancement. A native of Malaysia, Dang joined Starwood in 1993 and has worked in various operational and management positions in Malaysia and the Philippines. Dang moved to China in 2000 for the role of General Manager at Sheraton Xi’an Hotel; and in 2012, he took on the dual role of Area Managing Director for North China and General Manager of The Westin Beijing Financial Street. With Dang’s leadership, Starwood will continue to grow its footprint in Southeast Asia where the company currently operates 31 hotels in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. More than 20 hotels are in the pipeline with new destinations including the Philippines. In 2014, Starwood opened Four Points by Sheraton Puchong in Malaysia and signed seven new agreements in Southeast Asia. The company will continue its solid growth in 2015 with plans to open up to six hotels including The Westin and Sheraton in Jakarta, two Four Points by Sheraton properties in Makassar and Surabaya, Indonesia, Le Méridien in Putrajaya and The St. Regis in Langkawi, Malaysia.
