McDermott has over fifteen years of experience working in the hospitality industry and over ten years of experience working in group sales. Most recently, she was the sales manager for Crowne Plaza where she was responsible for managing the social, military, educational, religious, fraternal, government, and medical markets. Prior to this, McDermott was the director of marketing and sales for Vesta Hospitality where she was in charge of all marketing, sales, and meeting planning and was successful in developing and implementing marketing and branding initiatives for Country Inn & Suites and West Coast Carlson Hotel Worldwide
Before living in Oregon, McDermott was the reservations revenue manager for Red Lion Hotels in the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, overseeing group rooms and group payment and managing on-line global distribution. While attending California State University Long Beach, McDermott took her first job in hospitality as a concierge and front desk associate at La Montrose Suite Hotel where she assisted in the design of the hotel's guidebook for the city of Los Angeles.
