Karim Shawky has been promoted to Director of Operations at Grand Plaza Mövenpick Media City
Having served Grand Plaza Mövenpick Media City since its preopening, Karim Shawky has now been promoted to the position of director of operations. Shawky has worked at the hotel since 2018 as director of rooms, working across front office, housekeeping, reservations, gym and pool operations.
Stepping up to director of operations, Shawky now handles all rooms and food and beverage service operations.
Shawky got his foot on the ladder in 1998, working as a front desk agent with Sheraton in Alexandria. By 1999, he was a reservations agent with Four Seasons Cairo, part of its preopening team for the first Four Seasons resort in the Middle East at the time.
Staying with Four Seasons, Shawky rose up to reservations supervisor, assistant reservations manager and then reservations manager between 2001 and 2005. Staying with Four Seasons for another seven years, he became a rooms division management trainee within Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh, later rising to assistant director of rooms.
In 2012, he became director of rooms within Sofitel the Palm Resort, moving to Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group in 2014 as director of rooms in Kuwait. He has been with the Movenpick property from 2018 to now.
