Marcus Shell has been appointed as Director of Culinary Operations & Executive Chef at Uptown Social, Share House, Bodega Ann St. and By The Way

Uptown Hospitality Group is pleased to announce Marcus Shell as Director of Culinary Operations for its downtown locations (Uptown Social, Share House and Bodega Ann St.) as well as Executive Chef of its newest concept, By The Way, which is slated to open early fall 2024.

Born and raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Chef Marcus discovered his love for cooking at a young age, beginning his first kitchen role at 14 years old. Inspired by the fast-paced environment and camaraderie in the kitchen, Chef Marcus pursued his culinary education at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Cambridge, Mass., earning an associate degree in applied sciences.

Over the last 23 years, Chef Marcus has honed his skills and gained valuable experience working at esteemed restaurants along the East Coast. Chef Marcus now brings his impressive background to the Uptown Hospitality Group team, where he plans to use his unique approach of culinary artistry, studied technique and creativity to help drive innovation at the group's iconic Charleston locations - including its new neighborhood tavern concept, By The Way.

Before joining the Uptown Hospitality team, Chef Marcus served as Sous Chef at 82 Queen and Executive Chef at 39 Rue de Jean in Charleston, SC, where he earned his current appointment as a South Carolina Chef Ambassador. A dedicated member of the culinary community, Chef Marcus also actively participates in the Lowcountry Hospitality Association.
