Joseph Shurmur has been appointed as General Manager at Luminary Hotel & Co.
Luminary Hotel & Co. is pleased to announce the appointment of Joseph "Joe" Shurmur as the hotel's new General Manager. A seasoned hospitality executive with more than 20 years of leadership experience, Shurmur will oversee daily operations, team development, and guest services at the award-winning downtown Fort Myers hotel.
Shurmur most recently served as Vice President of Operations at Greenwood Hospitality & Hotel Equities, where he oversaw a diverse portfolio of properties and led strategic initiatives to drive operational excellence and guest satisfaction. Prior to that, he held senior leadership roles as Area Director and General Manager for several top hotel brands. During his time as General Manager of The Henry, Autograph Collection, the property earned "Hotel of the Year" honors twice under his leadership. Over the course of his 20-plus year career, Shurmur has successfully led properties within the Hilton, Omni, IHG, Hyatt, and Wyndham brands, as well as independent Four Diamond hotels, consistently fostering strong team cultures, achieving exceptional financial results, and delivering award-winning guest experiences.
A proud graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Hospitality Business, Shurmur now calls Southwest Florida home with his wife of 34 years. Outside of his professional responsibilities, he enjoys spending time outdoors fishing, diving, boating, golfing, and exploring nature. His leadership style is grounded in loyalty, energy, and a commitment to continuous growth.
