Adam Gurgiolo has been appointed as General Manager at Kimpton Gray Hotel
The Kimpton Gray Hotel is proud to announce the appointment of Adam Gurgiolo as general manager. A Chicago native with nearly 30 years of hospitality experience, Gurgiolo returns to the Kimpton brand to oversee operations at the award-winning hotel located in the historic 1894 New York Life Insurance Building.
A graduate of North Central College with a degree in History, Gurgiolo brings a unique perspective to the role, viewing the hotel's architecture as a vital piece of Chicago's cultural fabric. In his first year, he intends to deepen the property's connection to its heritage by spearheading new partnerships with local historical organizations and preservation groups, ensuring the building's storied past remains central to the guest experience.
This appointment marks a significant homecoming for Gurgiolo, whose career is deeply rooted in the Kimpton culture. He previously served as general manager of the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Chicago, where he earned a 2023 IHLA Hotelier of the Year nomination. In 2016, he opened the first Kimpton hotel in Ohio, the Kimpton Schofield Hotel in Cleveland. Under his direction, the Schofield was ranked the city's best hotel by U.S. News & World Report, and Gurgiolo was honored as the 2017 OHLA General Manager of the Year.
Gurgiolo's hospitality career began as a front desk agent at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Naperville while attending college, where he quickly realized his future was not in law or history — the focus of his studies — but in hospitality. Since then, he has worked his way through the ranks, leading impactful projects along the way. His previous experience includes overseeing the brand development and launch of the first L7 Chicago by Lotte in the United States, where he guided a major property renovation and brand transition, solidifying his long-term passion for the industry.
