Matt Herod has been appointed as General Manager at Grand Bohemian Lodge Asheville, Autograph Collection
Kessler Hospitality, Highgate’s dedicated division managing a collection of Kessler Collection properties, including Grand Bohemian Lodge Asheville, has appointed seasoned hotelier Matt Herod as General Manager of the property.
Herod brings an extensive background in luxury hospitality operations, with nearly a decade of leadership experience within Highgate and a proven track record of driving financial performance, operational excellence, and elevated guest experiences across complex and seasonal markets. He joins Grand Bohemian Lodge Asheville from his most recent role as Area Managing Director for Highgate-managed adventure resorts Salmon Falls Resort and The Ketch Inn in Ketchikan, Alaska, where he oversaw multi-site hotel, marina, food and beverage, and excursion operations.
During the off-seasons, he supported numerous task force and interim General Manager assignments across Highgate’s portfolio, providing hands-on leadership to underperforming or transitional assets. These assignments included properties such as Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver, Beaver Creek Lodge, Winter Park Mountain Lodge, Crested Butte Elevation Hotel & Spa, Scottsdale Plaza Resort, and others throughout Colorado, Arizona, and Alaska. Earlier in his career, Matt held senior Rooms Division leadership roles at large-scale destination resorts, including Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, Grande Denali Lodge, and Denali Bluffs Hotel, where he managed portfolios of up to 280 rooms and multi-million-dollar operating budgets
He holds an Associate of Arts in Business from Glendale Community College and is an engaged industry leader, having served as Chair for Southeast Alaska with the Alaska Hotel & Lodging Association. Outside of work, Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife, Lauren, and their two children, Brooks and Hayden. An avid golfer and outdoor enthusiast, he appreciates opportunities to explore new destinations and connect with the natural environment.
