Detroit Foundation Hotel announces the appointment of Sulaiman Shabazz as Director of Lifestyle, a strategic leadership addition that signals the property’s continued evolution as one of Detroit’s leading cultural and community-driven destinations. As part of his role, he will oversee the hotel’s lifestyle programming, cultural partnerships, and experiential strategy, helping to further position Detroit Foundation Hotel as both a gateway to Detroit’s creative community and a platform for showcasing the city’s culture, innovation, and talent to visitors from around the world.
A creative strategist and cultural programmer, Shabazz brings over 20+ years of extensive experience developing community-focused experiences and brand partnerships across hospitality, lifestyle, and cultural spaces, including leadership roles with Soho House Austin and The LINE Hotel. A Chicago native most recently based in Austin, he has built a reputation for creating experiences that foster meaningful connections, celebrate local culture, and strengthen a property's identity within its community. Throughout his career, he has combined creative vision with thoughtful execution, curating programming and partnerships that leave a lasting impression.
Under Shabazz’s leadership, Detroit Foundation Hotel will continue to expand its calendar of cultural, culinary, wellness, music, design, and innovation-focused experiences, creating new opportunities to showcase the city’s creative community while fostering authentic connections among guests, residents, artists, entrepreneurs, and makers.
Upcoming programming led by Shabazz includes a 3D Printing Workshop in partnership with All Motion Studio, highlighting Detroit’s growing influence at the intersection of technology, manufacturing, and art, as well as the Detroit on Wax series with Detroit Musix, which celebrates the city’s musical legacy through immersive listening sessions and conversations with local historians and cultural experts.
