Hayes Mansion, Curio Collection by Hilton, one of San Jose’s most distinguished historic landmarks and storied hotels, has appointed Isabelle Matter as its new general manager. A respected hospitality leader with more than 20 years of executive experience spanning luxury, lifestyle, and full-service hotels, Matter will oversee all operations for the property as it continues to evolve its identity as a modern California estate rooted in a legacy of hosting, thoughtful service, and the rich history that has made the property a treasured part of San Jose for more than 120 years.
Matter arrives at Hayes Mansion from her most recent role as general manager of The Clift Royal Sonesta in San Francisco, where she directed operations for the 372-room luxury hotel and implemented strategies that improved guest satisfaction scores and strengthened profitability. Her tenure at The Clift Royal Sonesta gives her a unique perspective on the thoughtful stewardship and operational nuances required to lead a historic property.
Prior to The Clift, from 2019 to 2023, she successfully launched Hotel Caza in San Francisco as its inaugural general manager, overseeing all phases of the hotel’s opening and stabilizing operations during one of the hospitality industry’s most challenging periods. Her resume also includes general manager roles at several of the Bay Area’s most recognized hotels, including YOTEL San Francisco, Hotel De Anza, and Joie de Vivre Hospitality properties including Hotel Los Gatos & Spa and The Moorpark Hotel. Throughout her career, she has built a reputation for elevating guest satisfaction, strengthening hotel culture, driving revenue growth, and successfully leading hotels through openings, renovations, and ownership transitions.
