Jon Benson has been appointed as General Manager at Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa
Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Villas, the premier Texas Hill Country resort located on 300 acres in San Antonio, announces the appointment of Jon Benson as General Manager. Bringing nearly four decades of Hyatt leadership experience, Benson joins the resort following its recent more than $100 million transformation, which introduced The Big Spring, a 2.2-acre lagoon powered by Crystal Lagoons® technology, new standalone villas, enhanced golf and spa experiences, expanded resort amenities, and renovated guestrooms and meeting spaces. He joins the property from Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa in California.
Originally from Connecticut, Benson discovered his passion for hospitality through his love of food and the family traditions that surrounded it. His interest in the industry began during high school when his parents owned and operated a neighborhood coffee shop serving breakfast and lunch. Surrounded by the aromas, flavors and sense of community that defined both the restaurant and family gatherings, Benson developed an appreciation for the role hospitality plays in bringing people together. He discovered early that sharing a great meal could spark joy andmeaningful connections, a philosophy that continues to shape his leadership style today.
Seeking warmer weather after a particularly harsh New England winter, Benson relocated to California where he began his Hyatt career as a third-shift room service cook at Hyatt Regency Newport Beach. He quickly advanced through the culinary ranks, eventually serving as Executive Chef at Hyatt properties around the world, including Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort, Spa and Casino, Hyatt Regency Dorado Beach Resort and Country Club in Puerto Rico, Hyatt Regency Beaver Creek Resort and Spa, Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa, and Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa.
In 2007, Benson joined Hyatt’s corporate team in Chicago as Corporate Director of Culinary Operations for North America, Canada and the Caribbean. He later returned to hotel operations serving in General Manager roles at Hyatt Centric Key West Resort & Spa, Park Hyatt Washington, Hyatt Regency Long Beach, Hana-Maui Resort and Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa before joining Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Villas.
Since relocating to San Antonio in June, Benson has immersed himself in the local community and was recently appointed to the board of the Visit San Antonio Tourism Public Improvement District, where he will help support the city’s continued growth as a premier travel destination.
